flooring hesitation

ok I have 85 GS with the 12A motor. The motor pulls strong but there are two complaints. 1. The gas mileage sucks. 2. When I floor it from like 20%throttle or so it hesitates before going, it kinda feels like a kickdown cable in an automatic. Is the carb/ out of adjustment? Is this why the gas mileage suck. I get about 12MPG when driveing frugal. Thanks...Jack

it has to do with the accelerator pump diaphram , its either starving for fuel or too much fuel . There is a wright up by sterling on this same thing search for"nikki mods" and youll find it

Before directfreak tears into you, try going to the archives...sterling has an excellent but very long post on the Nikki carb that will answer almost all of your questions....12 is too low, 17 is about normal, but that's city driving....should see better for highway numbers...

Check the old fuel filter too. The hesitation sounds like the AP.

as for fuel mileage, i can get about 20 on the highway at 60-65mph (3k rpm). normal city driving can get me about 15-16mpg. and driving it the way i should gets me about 8mpg
