yes, low gas in the rear float bowl would cause start probs.

adjust them?

might as well just buy a rebuild kit from local autoparts store and rebuild it while you're at it. new floats, needle and seat, etc....

the rear float is hanging down too much. bend the tab on the float so it'll sit up more.

Yep, that would definately cause a problem. You will need to adjust the rear one. They should both have the fuel level at the halfway point of the glass. Word of advice, make sure you tighten all the bolts down and the center post after adjusting the float before checking the fuel level. I had one hell of a time with it because I would get the level correct with two of the bolts and the center post but when you tightened the rest it would go out of wack again. Also, be gentle when adjust them. It doesn't take much to put them right out of wack.

Good luck with it!

The car has to be on level ground for the levels to be accurate. If your on a sloped driveway you cant check it. Oh and drivefast, rebuild kits dont come with floats.

Well isint the procedure in there? The bolts hes talking about are the screws that hold the top on. On the floats youll see the 2 tabs, one limits droop, one limits up travel. READ the manual.

Turned out to be the fact that the whole carb was messed up. One or more of the actual passages were gummed up so it didn't matter how I adjusted the floats the carb still went whatever way it wanted to!

and yes, I do have a manual!
