Talking Flaps or no Flaps

Hey guys, I have a 79 and it has mud flaps. They are acctually from 1979 and basically shot. What should I do?

A. Remove them and forget them.
B. Replace them with cheap-o basic ones.
C. Get some custome ones and replace them.

I don't want to displease the Mazda gods, so some advice would be nice.

Take 'em off.... my car didn't come with them, and I never miss them. Besides, you don't drive your car in the rain or snow, do you?

Driving first gens in the rain and snow rules! It's so much fun. If I were you I'd replace the mud flaps with accurate Mazda ones. for some reason I always liked the way they look. I wanna try and find a good set for my 83.

I agree with 82transam. I've had a couple of cars that had some body damage, so I didn't have any problem sliding them at 65mph on decent dirt roads. I don't have flaps, but they look cool and tend to keep road crap (dust, rocks, melted rubber) from building up on the rear fenders.

I'm sure that if you took out the stock crappy speakers in the back, you'd find that those weigh more than the four mudflaps. You're a little strange, mind you!

On another note...I have mudflaps for my car and they look cool! They also keep all that yucky stuff off the car and protect the paint. Get some or repair your old ones.

Hey, I bought my 83 LE for $350 (now sadly departed) from a drunk high school girl. It didn't have a straight piece of sheet metal anywhere on it. I had to remove the belly shields 'cause they were dragging the ground. With a car like that, it's almost wrong NOT to push it around in the dirt.

Nah, I'd definately remove them.

That's not my opinion by the way... I'm just right. They look stupid.

See ya!

I betcha if you took the flaps off, you'd run a 10.15... less wind resistance But I'm assuming you have to have them to race...

See, now thats functional, keep all the rubber of them slicks off the back end.

I took mine off, I actually had a problem with taking the last one off because the LAST screw was worn and rusted so I had to cut the last flap off. No regrets, looks less like truck now.

If any of you are interested, I have a new set of 4 from Mazda (with the RX-7 logo on them) still in the original Mazda shrink wrap (never opened). Make an offer. They are just hanging on the wall in the garage. I would rather see them used.

mud flaps look good, and they keep all the **** off my new paint and keep the back 1/4's from rusting to ****... and before my car was safetied, it was horrible.... and IMO RX-7's are the best car to powerslide in the snow, just give yourself a lotta time to end the powerslide... NO ABS can be a bitch

I think the paint thing is a little extreme, don't you?
