First gen vs 2nd gen seats appearance and seat comfort

Hi guys - the '79 SA I just bought and posted on yesterday as 2nd gen seats in it. Those seats are tired and to foam is collapsed to a point where they need to be redone. My intention is to keep the car as visually stock as reasonably possible (she will be used rather than a garage toy) while doing modest upgrades to improve how she drives and what she is like to live with.

From doing a bunch of searching here it appears that the consensus us that the 2nd gen seats are more comfortable. If that is correct and first gen seats are hard to track down that suggests I should just get these redone, yes?

Any tips or ideas on material? I am in SoCal so thinking cloth is the way to go rather than vinyl.

Thanks!

Call some upholstery shops. I would try to find 1st gen seats but that's just me.

Hi - thanks for the note back. Fortunately in SoCal I have a lot of choices of upholstery shops but was also hoping to get some feedback on how comfortable the first gen seats are.

Nice work n the GTU btw.

Thanks.

RB makes nice seat covers for 1st gens, not sure what they have for 2nd gens.

If you just want to cruise around, the first gen seats with separate headrests are nice, for sporty driving the Turbo II seats have the best side bolstering. Everything else is kinda in between.

I agree with ^.

I have a really nice set of 1st Gen seats covered in leather, but when I do a track day I switch in a pair of junkyard Turbo II seats, they do have better side bolsters and mine are rather sunken in , which enhances their bolstering abilities nicely.

I love the leather seats in the 1st gen, very comfortable. But like the others say, for autocross or spirited driving the fc seats are functional.
