First gen RX-7 needed for studio shoot
Hi,
My name is Richard Dredge and I do all the major buying guides for Practical Classics magazine. The next guide I’ve been asked to do is on the first and second-generation RX-7 and I’m posting here for two reasons.
The first (and probably the most difficult) is to track down an RX-7 that I can put into the studio - these photos (and these photos only) will be used to illustrate the five-page feature. The problem is that I need a car which is in very good condition (it doesn't need to be concours) and to original spec. Please note this – modified cars can’t be used. Because the car will be photographed in 100% artificial light against a white background the car can’t be white and ideally won’t be black or silver either.
I need to get as early a car as I can, preferably in a reasonably strong colour. I also use just two photo studios; one is the National Motor Museum, in Beaulieu, and the other is in Derby. The car needs to be photographed by the end of the month, but it will be done at a time that suits the owner, subject to the photographer being available. The shoot takes a whole day and it can be done at a weekend if necessary.
The owner will have to take the car to the studio and have a day out on us. Although we don't pay a fee for the use of the car, we will pay costs. The owner will of course get a copy of the magazine and their car will be photographed across five pages of it. But the biggest draw is that a photoshoot costs over £400, and the car's owner will get a copy of all the pictures taken, on a CD-ROM. As the photographer uses a medium format digital camera, everything will be available for the owner to do with what they like (although they won't own the copyright of course).
Naturally, nobody except the car's owner will be driving the car, and the only pictures taken are in the studio - there's no photography of the car being driven on the road.
After that, the rest is quite easy. The other thing I need help with is putting together some text that is comprehensive and accurate. I can usually get started but need some guidance on quite a few areas such as the best specialists, books and websites. Parts prices and availability is also another area that's in there.
If you think you can help me, could you please let me have a contact number so that I can ring you. Alternatively, my home number is 01905 775 539.
Regards,
Richard Dredge

Could be legit, but he didn't do much research as to where to place his post. I was jumping to conclusions and being too protective of our members here.
There are just too many overseas scams.
So Richard Dredge, if you are who you say you are, then I send my apologies.

I'd love to help you out...I'm the original owner of my '79 RX-7...VIN 1090. And it's nearly completely original. But alas, I think I'd have a difficult time getting it across the pond. Oh well.

Richard. I used to know of an elderly man, named Henry, that owned original1983 Limited Edition near London. Unfortunately he sold it.
Your best bet is to go back to the main forum page and scroll down to the European Section. Most if not all are American here, and we also have quite a bit of Aussies and P'Ricans in this section of the site.

There is a very active UK club, www.mazdarotaryclub.com, which is more likely to have members who could help.
The posted item fom Practical Classics was exactly opposite to the RX-7Rox comment, it was saying the magazine was strengthening its security to avoid scams by people trying to buy cars it had advertised.

The whole project is great publicity for the gen 1 and the information published will be useful. Plus the possible resulting demand for the car will increase the value of SA/FBs.
I predict the value of original cars will rise rapidly over the next five years, with most modified cars becoming unsaleable at more than a third of what it cost to modify them.

Hey Richard,
I know of a beautiful fully restored ALL original parts (including factory tires) SA!
You'll have to fly to Mazda R&D in Irvine, California if you want to photograph it.

Fortunately the UK RX web site has a far more mature membership so he should receive sound advice there. In fact I look forward to reading the Practical Classics articles when they come out.
