First gen rare?

One of my friends has been telling me how rare my car is. I realy dont think it is rare but he does. It is 85 gs but it does not ahve the sun roof. Which he says matters but i don't know i just like it beacuse it is one less place for water leak through.

It may be where you're at... Around here there's only 3 first gens I've ever seen.

I've seen 2 second gens and no 3rd...

But that's just in my area. If you went to Cali or Texas or Florida you'd probably see a lot more, ask him if he's talking regional or like... globally rare.

Runners are semi-rare. Good-looking-no-dent runners ARE rare. Non-runners are plentiful in Metroplex junkyards. Yours is desirable because its overall body flex is reduced with no moonroof cut outta the roof. Less body flex is a good thing...that means more power gets to the ground instead of being wasted twisting the chassis. It just looks cleaner, too.

well it is a solid runner with rebuilt motor in it and only two dens one on each fo the front fenders. I think from a tie down strap when being hualed on a trailer. i was just wondering about the non sunroof deal.

I gots one too. I see very few around without the sunroof. That is a plus in some regards (I never use the sunroof on our Intrepid or Legend) but the brakes are a minus unless you have upgraded. The rear drums are a big deterent and the 4x110 bolt pattern makes new wheels tough. That can all be swapped out for GSL-SE suspension components which make it more desireable to the racers out there - you can get one from a junky.

Yeah i am getting ready to swap a gsl-se rear end but form what i hear that is a pain due to the driveshafts are different. Is there any truth to that or is it just a simple swap.

Not really. The rear drum brakes will lock the wheel no problem, they are not desirable on the track, but for street duty they are fine, especially with decent shoes. The rear disc brakes are very powerfull, especially in such a light car. Carefull consideration of brake pads and a brake bias valve would definately improve the stopping power

Not true again. Most race classes like Pro7 and Spec7 require only 12A parts, especially rims. A 4x110 bolt pattern makes finding "consumer market" rims slightly difficult, but if you are a real racer you know where to go for rims. And most racers preffer to buy shells since they are a clean slate to build a car to the limits that the rules allow.

The 85 Base or GS without sunroof is kind of rare, but not a collector item. I have an 85 base, which is more of a race platform than the GS version, (less electronics to rip out).

have fun with your car.

I am not a racer so perhaps I spoke a little out of turn about what is preferable for racers..

Regarding the drums, I don't agree but that's my right. Drums have to be adjusted properly to lock the wheels, they go out of adjustment often and access to the adjuster is not trivial (although not difficult). If you are willing to adjust them regularly, they are fine. Or if you drive gently enough that the fronts will suffice. Drums also fade when they get hot. Really an opinion matter though, and I could be on the lesser side of the opinion scale.

Ref wheels. Yeah, you can find them (internet searches are great things) and the price will make you gag, at least the ones I have found. If you know of a good source where the price is not jacked because of the goofy bolt pattern, would like to know.
