First gen no leading spark

Hi all im in need of some advice from someone more experienced then i am with an 85 model rx7 12a ignition system. So i am having an issue with getting spark to my leading plugs. Ive purchased a new coil and installed it and checked everything as best i know how with a test light. The trailling coil gets power on positive side and negative side and negative pulses when spun over and makes perfect strong spark. The leading side gets power too postive post on coil and the negative side too but the negative does not pulse when spun over and produces no spark to plugs.ive done a visual inspection on the whole system up to the wiring harness and no wires look broke or burnt the rotor button looks good the cap looks good the pick up plates in the distributor are clean. Im not 100 percent of what my next step should be to diagnose this issue. Any help is very very much appreciated thanks for reading

You either have a bad leading ignitor or the magnetic pickup for leading is not working in the dizzy.

Try switching the ignitors leading for trailing and see if leading works.

You can also check the air gap on the mag pickup to make sure its in spec. FSM has the details on all of this.

This site has the manuals online foxed.ca

hello did you figure out the problem cause im having the same problem with my rx7 its a 1983 with a 1984 12a in it but i have no power on the lead coil there is power on the coil its self but not coming out the wire moved coils around and the coils both work but nothing coming out the lead coil. I try swaping the modules around and its still the same no power on the lead coil only on my trailing coil.

This is an old thread but I'm searching the archives to find what the air gap should be for the mag pickup on the non-points electronic ignition. It doesn't list it in my Haynes manual unless it's the cryptic reference under the points gap noting a .018 gap. Any advice?
