First gen brakes - Axxis/Porterfield R4s?

Anyone out there actually tried out the porterfields?? Supposed to be nice pads, but I searched high and low and couldn't find much feedback from people that actually use them.

Also, where can I get pricing on Axxis pads?? Anyone using them?

Thanks!

So has anyone tried the Axxis Metalmasters? About 80 bucks for all 4 - a huge price break on most aftermarket pads...

Right now it's down to the Hawk HP+, Axxis MM, and parts store VGX pads...

The Porterfield's are just out of my price range right now. I'd rather spend the money on getting new rotors all the way around...

I have used both the HP+ and MetalMasters before. The Hawks are way better. The Axxis are just a little better than stock - IMO.

BTW - this is David88vert, I am posting on r71's computer.

Hmmm, thank you for the feedback.

I guess I am just going to have to find the cheapest place for the Hawks, and go with those.

Did you run the Hawks front and back, or just in front? I've heard plenty of people running plain stock pads in back even on road race cars...so naturally I'm wondering if it's worth the cost to run a nice pad on the back of my daily driver/autox toy.

HAWKS in the front and stock bands in the rear...

Hawks ARE Noisy though. But awesome...

0 braking problems, fluid needs to be switched to high performance higher boiling point for racing.

Still have some blanks to fill in...

Ok, I'm going to:

Replace all 4 rotors (fronts 62/each, rear 30/each in stock at local parts store)
Hawk HP+ front pads
______ rear pads *
______ DOT-approved stainless brake lines **
Castrol fluid flush
Speedbleeders ***

* Rear pad options
  • my stock ones (decent shape)
  • replacement stock ones (20 bucks at parts store)
  • Hawk HPS (unsure of price)
  • Hawk HP+ (54 bucks)

**Stainless line options
  • Where is the best, cheapest place to obtain these?

***Speedbleeder options
  • www.speedbleeders.com is $7.00 each
  • Any cheaper places? I e-mailed a spec7 racer that supposedly sells them for $5.20/each but received no response...
  • I'll actually be ordering 5 (an extra for the clutch)

Thanks to anyone who can fill in my blanks!! I'm tring as hard as possible to get this as close to right as I can the FIRST time - it takes some patience to spend this much on a car I procured for 300 bucks.
