First 1st Gen project

This one is my son's car.

Check it out, 50K miles on a rebuilt 12A, 136k on the car itself, went through a hailstorm so it's got some dings, but very little rust, (none at all in the bins or the wheel wells) and a small dent low in the left quarter panel. After it's mechanically sound we'll do the bodywork.

All for 500 bucks about a 150 extra including new new jute all around, new windshield, dash, misc parts, and glass moonroof. (I love the dark blue tint on the new windshield)

I'm having so much fun with this I'm gonna get another soon

Loving the windshield too. How much did you pay for that?

the car sat and rotted under a tree for about seven years. A buddy of mine whose good with these cars rescued it for free, (minus time and effort towing it 300 or so miles). The guy just wanted it out of his yard. Well it really looked nasty, had mice and stuff living in it over the years, the engine was frozen, so after an atf treatment and some cleaning and tlc, my friend gets it running and sells it to my son for 500. Then he finds me a glass sunroof for 50 and I have scoured the bone yards for the other items it needed, replacement dash, windshield etc. All in all, so far it's cost 650, (oh yea, got an electric fan from a fierro going in, gotta love the bone yard!)

All I've done is pull the carpets to replace the jute which was rotted (it smelled of mold), replaced fuel filter, replaced bad speedo, chased down some nasty bad grounds, and found a leak in the heater control valve, which is to be replaced soon, (already got the part and the dash is out and waiting for the new one to be installed).

Next up is bushings, brakes, steering tune up, full engine tune up, and then the body work. Any performance mods will come after all of that, well, maybe before the body work, but Junior is going to pay up front for performance mods

Looks like a nice project car. BTW: Jute is insulation (such as in the back under the hatch carpet).

Jute is a bark from a plant grown mainly in Bangladesh. It used to be used for weaving strong large bags for transporting things like wheat. It was also used for backing for good quality carpets, and some cases just as a cheap flooring material. Thus, I assume it is under the carpet and could have rotted. Then I could be wrong1

No more of those windshields available, I pulled it from a junked 79 along with it's dashboard from an auto salvage yard. I was sweating getting it out of the car without cracking it but I took my time (and two electric guitar strings), and got it out unharmed.

Yea, the jute was in bad shape, it was making the car smell moldy. The carpets and seats look brand new after shampooing though. No tears or holes in either.

Well, 500 is still a great price, heck, I've seen engines with with almost 100k miles on them go for that much!

Hears, the dashboard I got out of the 79, it cost 16 bucks!

Jute- yes it is the stuff under the carpet used for sound dampening, and is one of the first things you strip out for weight loss.

So what does haggling have to do with an ebay auction?

i got mine for 300, had been sitting in a garage for 6 years, had no motor but had everything else in completely working condition(minus front brake calipers), now i got a 13B in it, and am almost ready to drive it(gotta fab up mounts for my oil cooler, and have oil cooler lines made at a local hose shop)... i've put probly 1500 or so into it now tho, in buying the motor(ported it myself, let atkins assemble it), front calipers, oil cooler, and any other necessary things to get it running, but it will be worth it in the end, its gonna be one of the few clean FB's here...
