Radio removal special tool needed?

The radio in my '85 GS is dead, and I can't see any easy way of getting it out. Do you need a special tool to get at the ring nuts under the volume etc controls? The lhs one is visible, the 2 on the rhs seem to have a piece of plastic in front of them. Couldn't find anything on a search, hope it is so easy nobody else has bother posting such a silly question. thnx all
ps my first post, got the RX 2 weeks ago, lots of work, but tons of fun

Did you take the whole radio bexel off? You will need to take the 2 bottom screws out that are covered by the shift boot cover.

Glad we're taking care of the important stuff first.

Becareful to not break the plastic, almost impossible to find a good one anymore. They sell new for >$200 IIRC

thanks all!

Thanks for the info, as soon as you guys steered me in the right direction it was a piece of cake. I was trying to just remove the radio, and not the whole assembly (doh!). Working from the shifter boot up was easy-cheesy. Thanks again.

ps radio still doesn't work, but at least I know how to get it out now
