Fire out of carb.
Yesterday i was driving my 7 when i hit about 5 grand it started to sputter and died on me, well i pulled into a parking lot and went to fire it up agian and nothing, just the sound of the car turning over. Well i sat there and listend and realized the Fuel pumop wasn't on, so i investigated and found out the switch wasn't working, i pby passed it and had the fule pump working, when i went to turn it over agian, i saw fire shoot out of the carbby, now i can't get the dam thing to turn over, it's getting spark and defitnly getting fuel, but it won't turn over. So my questions are this
Why did fire shoot out of the carby and is it likly my motor is blown? The motor is onlt 15K miles old, so it SHOULDN'T be bad.
My next questions are this, i still have to pass emissions and am on a tight budget, no more then then $2500, if i need to replace the engine, what's my best bang for the buck if i want to stay with the 12A, N/A and with resonabile streetability? Thanks.

Ok the rims are from Team Dynamics, **** nitrous, we'll find out the compression tonight and i'm not sure about the timing, is it possible the timing will just throw itslef off like that?

Just my opinion, but fire should never come out of the intake.... Thats a sign of a serious problem. Almost as if your timing was way too advanced, and you started spinning backwards......

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
When you turn it over, does it sound right? On my latest project we shot about a 6" flame out the carb and pretty soon after blew one or two apex seals. Don't know if fire out of the carb is a sign of a soon-to-be-blown Apex seal, but its food for thought.
If you need a new engine, try the junkyard. A friend of mine just picked up a really strong 12A from a junkyard that hes putting in his racecar.

Well, the only way I can think of spark or flames coming out of the carb is if the spark plugs are firing during combustion or the exhaust cycle, which would mean the timing is way off.
But I don't think timing just goes off by 180 degrees by itself. I guess the drive gear would have to break for that to happen.

Well I'm guessing here.
Sounds like your timing is advaced. Thus the spark is occuring earlier while the intake port is still open, and the combustion blows back thru the intake/carb.
Timing check is a must. Distributor could have moved or maybe the vacuum advance mechanism is stuck in advance?
Good Luck
