Fire!!!!!!!!!!!

I have and 83 and I pulled up to my friends house and had to jump out because there was smoke billowing out of the cab. I have come to the conclusion that the choke cable was touched by a shorted out wire on the wiring harness. This started the plastic cover on the choke cable on fire. There is no more fire now so i think the short burned in half. Now when i hit the gas there is a delay or at slow speeds even boggs down. What in the world happened?

I had almost the exact thing happen to me.

I think something shorted out on the cruise cable, it got hot and in contact with a fuel line which burnt and spewed gas all over my engine. The whole cab filled up and my windows stopped working so I knew something was up; the whole damn car almost burnt down so consider yourself lucky , could have been alot worse.

I had to rewire my entire harness one wire at a time. It took about 8 hours. You should check every wire and every vacuum hose and cable.

ha lots of luck I believe they are $800 from the factory. Since they are worth their weight in gold you will not find people giving them up easily. Just because you had a fire doesn't mean your harness is shot though, just a suggestion.

I have all the harnesses from an 84 (as far as I know), the car ran before it started getting parted out. As is. Let me know what you think a fair price is .
