Finished Fresh Air Intake **Pics**
yeah, that intake looks very nice, but was it worth 200? I am NOT telling you that it was a bad decision, but what I am really asking is would you recommend it to the rest of the first generation rx-7 community?
$200 for some dryer lint trap flexible hose?
I guess it comes with that black and chrome air filter assembly...but, how is that one different than the stock one (aside of color?)
I imagine you could do that mod for $20 at Home Depot on your stock air filter assembly, for the same performance gain.
(although I have seen numerous threads of people saying you get 0 performance gain from a CAI).

But what does it do? Last year as a test I measured external and engine bay temperatures. At 22 degrees external temperature and 60mph speed, the temperature of air entering the stock air intake was less than .2degrees warmer. The impact on performance would be negligible. You would be looking at $2500 per hp gain!
In comparison, there are quotes of 2-3% power savings going for an electric fan That is around $150 per hp gain.

Pratch- I suggest insulation makes no difference as the air flow down the intake pipe is so great. Some 500cfm, say 6 charges a second gives little time for heat transfers.
