Finally done with the GSL-SE Swap.
Well, I am FINALLY done with the suspenssion swap into my 1984 GS from a 1984 GSL-SE. I swapped the rear diff in total and the front struts and hubs. I installed new Racing Beat front and rear sway bars, RB braided brake lines, Hawk front pads, stock rear pads, Mazda Trix drilled front rotors, energy poly bushings on the watts, the strut rod, and the inner joint on the front control arm. I put in new pitman and idler arm form Moog and new ball joints form Black Dragon. I ordered the wheels and tires form Discount Wheel and Tire on the web. They are Konig Reason 16" x 7" with 205/45R16 BFG g-force sport rubber. It is truly a different car. I just need to find a place around here to try it out to it's full potential and exceed the limits so as to find out what they are.
I had only a few bits of trouble with the swap.
1) The parking brake cables are hard.
2) I ended up at a shop to find the ratttle in my front struts after the swap. Turns out the top of the strut cartrige needed a shim between that and the under side of the top nut.
3) I had a bad ball joint from Black Dragon. Ended up with a Moog on one side.
Over all I had fun with this project. Now I just need some ponies to back it up.

I'm in the process of doing this and have a couple of questions for you. How did you clean up and paint the rear axle housing? Mine is quite rusty so I'm sandblasting it, then will coat it with POR-15 when I'm done. Also, that's the same size wheel I'm planning on getting...what offset did you get? I figured somewhere around 40 - 45mm should be right.
Thanks,
Rich

I did the same swap not too long ago. Everything went real smooth, but, I agree, the parking brake cables suck. I'm not sure about your swap, but I had to get both vehicles rolling, so it was double the fun, uh, work.

64mgb - All I did with the paint work was to get a heavy waterbased degreaser and scrub it for quite a while. Then I wire brushed all that I could get. (The dif was not all that rusty to begin with, mainly just surface rust) I used a spray can rust bonding primer multiple coats and a high temp engine paint (spray can) in satin black. It may not be the hardest finish there is, but it works for me.
2ndly, The wheels are a 38mm offset. I have a ever so slight rub on the sway bar at full crank.
fatmanslim247, no problem nice to meet ya.
