The final summer pictures, and some winter progress! 56K beware..

Well, since it started snowing today, the RX is safely in storage. I thought i would share some of the best pics taken summer 2006.

Engine. Original 12A turbo, FMIC and a few other bits and pieces..

Taken at the pier. Keeping her original on the outside, except for the rims. Cant beat that look...

Taken outside our garage. Having a booth in one of Norways very few rotary shops does have its advantages...

The final pic is of some of things to come.. On the list is Haltech, T-62/1 turbo, extend port job, dowelling. Im almost done with the suspension, all i need is new springs for the Bilstein adjustables.. The inside is getting the "race" treatment, wich means stripped out, bucket seats and carbon...

As the saying goes, chrome wont get you home!

Thanks for the comments!

I am changing the mirrors, just have to get some original US style first. The reason the "F1" mirrors are there, is fitment! The original mirrors were broken/not very pretty, so i needed something that would mount to the original holes. These did.

Long winters? Dont even start.. On the positive side, i get more time working on the car.

More updates, maybe even a project thread, will come!

I bought the mirrors from a local shop, and since im in Norway, im guessing ordering them from the same shop and having them sent overseas really isnt an option, id try Ebay. They are not vehicle specific, so getting some that are ment for door mounting (and not in the triangle of your a pillar) would be your best choise in my opinion.

BTW. If you dont mind doing some bodywork, and desperatly want to mount mirrors on the pillar, then BMW 3 series (E30) has almost the exact same measures as a 1.gen.

How about some pics and specs on your turbo and manifold. I'm still researching/shopping for mine and haven't decided on which turbo yet.

Very nice engine bay and clean looking install on the fmic.

WOW!,

Beautiful car AND wheels AND mirrors! I like everything about it! Hey, I'll trade you some "Levi's" for the mirrors. Just kidding. No...really, (JEG ønske din speilet!) what do you want for the mirrors (since they mount to the original holes) when you get your replacements???

As stated, the mirrors can be found on Ebay etc. Shipping from Norway would kill your wallet...

The turbo is still the original Hitachi HT18S. Its basically the same turbo as a standard TII turbo, except for the size of the compressor wheel, wich of course is smaller. The new manifold isnt really made yet, but seeing that i have a steering column in the way, it will have to lift the turbo up and forward towards where the stock airfilter box used to be. I basically have two options:

1. Making a new manifold. This is the most likely solution, since it will enable me to get the turbo exactly where i want it.

2. Using a FD manifold, cut it and narrow the flange towards the engine. This means that the space will be limited, and since im running a external wastegate, this could get tricky.

I cant take the engine out yet, the car isnt registered, and one of the things i have to do to get my plates is having the car inspected in its original state by the DMV. And even they are going to understand that a huge shiny turbo wasnt original back in 83... The intercooler could pass inspection, ill just tell them that the original one broke and that i couldnt get a new one..
