Well, I've posted before, showing pictures of my turbo project. Last time, I was sporting an old volvo intercooler, and the setup was only halfway completed, if that. lots of details missing. Well, this time, it's all together (for the most part), and looking really good!
here's the details:
Turbocharged 12a
s4 turbocharger
rotary shack carb hat
racing beat intake manifold
weber 45 dcoe
TurboXS BOV
spearco intercooler
centerforce clutch
aeromotive rrfpr and fuel pump
summit 16 gallon fuel cell






It should be running within the next week, and on the road within a month or so. Tell me what you think about it

I still have a little work left on the fuel cell, i cut out the spare tire well, and i had a disc cut out to fit the hole, I'm gonna end up filling the cell through my hatch, but oh well. heres an old picture, a bad one too, but it shows the disc. I've cut out a hole to fill up the tank through, and ive mounted a little threaded cap to it, should work pretty nice. still need to weld in the disc though.

 

Looks Good. I like how you mounted the intercooler and radiator. Point the BOV down. You never want water to fall in accidently (while pointing up). Make sure you have a good bead around the IC piping, and get T-Bolt clamps. Those hose clamps will pop off at 5 psi.

Just speaking from personal experience.

BTW, I can't wait to hear it run!

 

Coming along nicely Sudox. Ditch that water oil cooler bro before you fry that turbo. Find a 79 doner.

 

haha, thats the kind of stuff I like to hear directfreak. I had a shop TIG the connector on the IC piping, so that should be fine. As for the rest, I'll take your advise. <sigh>, the bov looks so much cooler pointing up.... off to order some T-bolt clamps...

 

I agree on the oil cooler, I'm running a FC oil cooler on my 82GSL and I love the extra space on top of the engine and no oil leaks to boot.

I think those clamps are good for at least 10 psi. Just use a ratchet to tighten it.

 

what size i/c piping is that??? and where did you get it???
also can you post some pics of the fuel regulator and wastegate.

 

looks good, i was using those clamps for 14 lbs without a problem. but using a ratchet to tighten them is good advise. Them T-bolts clamps can kill a budget (thats my cheap *** talking)

 

I always use a ratchet. Slotted screwdrivers suck.

That looks good. Does your fuel cell have safety foam and a 0-90 ohm GM guage sender? If so, you got the same cell as me.

alright, now to answer a few questions. I'm using 2.5 inch intercooler piping. It's actually mandrel bent exhaust tubing from summit. Something like $20 a bend, not too bad. I dont remember exactly what the IC dimensions are, something along the lines of 3 x 8 x 21, not a bad fit. It was $380 shipped, ebay is great.

Jeff20B, sounds like we have the same fuel cell, how did you end up mounting yours?

carlrx7: The threading for the studs is M10 x 1.5, or 10 mm with a 1.5 thread, however you want to say it. I actually just bought 70 mm long bolts, tightened them into the engine, and cut off the heads. heh, it worked out great. I dont think I have a good picture of it up on my cardomain site, but i welded toegether two racing beat 12a header flanges together for a spacer. I still have very little clearance between the intake manifold and turbo (less than an inch, maybe 1/2).

thanks for all the comments and compliments. I still need to rig up coolant lines to and from the turbo, then i should be able to crank it up. then comes exhaust fabrication, tuning, and all that fun stuff. but it's coming along

 

Those hose clamps are fine. I've run them at 16psi and nothing ever popped off.

I guess 16PSI with a stock turbo, and 16PSI with a 63-1 Turbo are quite different.
