a few symptoms but no problems...yet

when applying my brakes, the brake lamp warning light on the dash appears, but dimly lit. my voltometer has been reading sort of high at times almost 14.5 -15 volts. but i turn my lights on and it drops. voltometer bounces with turn signals. my tach has always acted funny. i assume i have a ignitor going out. but tonight it got worse. it was acting up when i was idling.

any ideas? do all these como from the same problem? different things? any ideas before i get an electrical fire?

thanks in advance

my voltmeter usually has weird issues like that, when the turn signal is on the volt meter jumps back and forth to a high amount like almost 15 volts. havent had any problems though, the only weird thing is sometimes my seat belt light will go on and it shouldnt, happens here and there. never figured it out

If your stop or brake light on the dash goes off when you hit the brakes, you have a tail light out. Thats what happened to me.

As far as the volt meter going wacky, usually that is a grounding issue. Kentensu had a carter fuel pump/ holley regulator thread, and I believe 3rd page into it about halfway down he did some pump rewiring, got a quieter pump and less/no blinker volt dipping.

I'll do a search for it right quick.

EDIT: Ah close, it was the 2nd page.

Looking back, I don't think that link has anything to do with this thread. Oops.

Brake light coming on while applying brakes is also an indication of low fluid level in the master.

Cody, I'd start by checking the battery cables to make sure everything is tight and clean. If that doesn't resolve the issue, either have the alternator tested or try another one if you have one laying around.

Earlier this spring I had voltage issues like that, and after trying two different alts I finally found that the battery cable was loose at the starter..

Electrical wierdness frequently stems from loose/corroded ground connections.

its not the brake light, its the 'brake lamp' light. and my turn signals where also pacing faster before i start braking, when the rpms where up. ive chedked the connection at the batter, and this is my second alt, so there is a good chance its a bad ground at the starter especially considering ive only got one bolt holding it place, it may not be making an adequate connection to the bell housing.
