few Q's
hey i got a 85 GSL SE..I was just wondering if their should be a lot of noise coming in for outside,, like street noise. Seems to be quite a bit coming in almost to much, is this normal? Cant really hear it that bad sometimes because of my exhaust but it is quite loud. Also im preety sure this is normal but it should back fire sometimes on deceleration right "no cats"?

Hmmm. Then, next, check your weather seals, and make sure your doors are closed. Also, make sure your hatch is latching correctly, and that your tires don't have dry rot and aren't seperating at the tread.

You may, that is if you have any aftermarket modifications (such as no cats) advance your timing slightly beyond what is factory specific. Because obviously you no longer have a factory car so factory setting dont really apply to you anymore. Set timing to factory, scribe a mark for reference on the distributor. Next advance your timing about a half of a degree, tighten your distributor and drive it... well drive it like you would normally do, except try to make the car backfire. If it still does repeat, do not move in excess of four degrees or so from your scribe. You could cause the car not to start, but if you've scribed said marks you can reajust your distributor back to factory. If this does not solve your backfiring or makes it worse attempt retarding your ignition, however do it like before a half degree at a time and never exceed four degrees. If this does not correct your problems check your compression, low compression can allow for unburnt fuel. Second check you spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotar button. also check for exhaust leaks as said before. hope this helps

Is the noise localized at all (is it coming from the front, the back, the left, or the right)? Does it sound in anyway like grinding? At first when I my wheel bearing was starting to go out, it just sounded like road noise, then about a week later it sounded like there were rocks inside of my wheel well bouncing around.
Or, the previous owner could of removed that sound deadening stuff that was put on the inner body?
