what a shame another loss to the ricers. I dont know where the car is from but it looks like its a 81 or 82 model gsl (the gas door still has a keyhole)

FWD cars with wings add downforce at the back, but unless there's a bigass front airdam adding downforce in front, the force on the back actually LIFTS the front end and provides less traction for the drive wheels.

Most ricers add a front kit that opens the front like swiss cheese (a zillion 'ducts' and other mesh-covered holes) that do not balance out the downforce provided by the park bench bolted to their hatch or trunklid.

Ok, you see them on the race cars along WITH a front airdam that produces downforce as well. Just putting a rear wing on a front wheel drive car does not help anything. More downforce on the rear of a front wheel drive car takes weight off the front. (see Websters dictionary under "fulcrum") Removing weight from the drive wheels/turning wheels is a bad thing.

Sorry Mantis- didn't realize there was another page... I think we covered it, though.

Exactly the same is true of rwd car ... down force is all about achieving a balance regardless of which wheels are being driven ... therefor the standard phrase of rear wing on a fwd car = automatic rice is not really valid (that was my original point for raising the example of fwd cars that utilise rear wings)

er... not quite. A rear wing will not unload rear drive wheels like it will front drivewheels.

It can, however, unload steering traction

It IS an old Illinois plate. That's a blue stipe along the top, the style of the plates from like 5 years ago, and used for several years prior to that.

The badge on the back right, is a "MAZDA" badge. Not quite sure what it is on the B pillar, but I would assume, just something slapped on there, like the wing.

That is Chateau Silver, with the red stripe, which was factory for the 83 LE.

And, I'm confused as to an earlier post. Someone said Its not a GSL, because it has a rear washer nozzle?

I have a GSL with a rear washer nozzle. Am I not supposed to have one, or was that just sarcasm?

no, that's just the regular silver color, nor the LE silver... The LE cars were a much more greenish color..

that also only has the standard 13" wheels, and not hard to tell teh "GSL" on teh pillar.

Did anyone else notice the fart can too?

Oh for Chrissakes, it's a freakin' GSL.
That pinstripe is BLUE, and the GSL badge is as plain as the nose on my face! And I've got one hell of a big shnozz, let me tell ya'. Seems like some people wouldn't know a GSL if it entered them from the rear...

No doubt, that's also a MN license plate, thank you very much!

And I did notice it was a GSL, and can't believe the amount of people that posted and didn't know that...

That car is a proper mess, and if I ever meet the owner, we'll have a nice talk about correct restoration and rice mods...

Um, OR NOT. Let me clear this little misunderstanding up for y'all. I have a GSL. That IS NOT a GSL. I'm not sure specifically what it is, but I can go outside and look at my own car to verify for ya.

Of course this is assuming you are using the term "gsl" to mean "gsl-se". If not, then tell me to go **** myself and I'll shuttup. Hehe

I think that pot may be affecting your judgment.

I think the GSL emblem on the side of the car would confirm that it is, in fact a GSL. Why are we arguing about this? We should just find the F$@%^ and explain to him how to fix up a rex... putting a wing on it before fixing the rust holes is not fixing it up. (notice the black rubber strip missing above the rust hole, as well?)
