Fellow Turbo FBer's lend me your ear :)

ok stuid subject... ok i am fialising(i hope) my "game plan" on my turbo fb. and wanted to know what your input was on your turbo choice. Im not looking to make 800 hp or anything but im not looking for a stock turbo eather. my orignial plan was to street port a sr4 motor and get a sr5 turbo and make a hybrid to4 with it. then a fc buddy of mine said i COULD get the 300 hp i want from a hybrid or full out t04 but i would be running the turbo pretty hard. so what next? i figured t66 or a 60-1 my theroy on this is i want to over kill all aspects of the motor. i want to give it enuff boost and fuel and cooling ect.ect.ect. for say 500 hp but NEVER tune it up that far. that way i have PLENTY of safty room incase i get a boost spike or something.
Im not a turbo guy, never having owned 1, but have driven tons of them and my good friend has moded a few t2's into the 400 rear wheel hp range. so i do have a little guidance. But i figured boost in a fc isnt boost in a fb and you would know a little better if a 66 is overkill. I really only want to build 1 motor and get all the bolt on stuff right the 1st time no hatig the turbo for tomuch lag or coming on@5k rpm. if you can please let me know what setup your running and how pleased you are with it or displeased and what you would change. what kinda hp are you getting? butt dyno, real dyno, g tech?

I'm getting 389HP with using T04B. Why does your friend think you'll be running the turbo hard? Are you planning on streetable HP? 400HP on any FB is enough for the street. Trust me you'll be hauling!

I would go with a 60-1. 300hp without breaking a sweat and 500hp with a little grunt

Much of your spool time and streetability of the turbo is determined by the AR housing, and the trim on the compressor wheel.

A S5 turbo will push 300hp to the back wheels on about 15psi. Remember, its a pretty big turbo for an OEM effort.

If you MUST got the big turbo, get a GT35/40. On my engine, it made 400 to the back wheels on 15psi and pump fuel on a fairly average tune. Don't forget a big turbo costs more money....

I would stick with the S5 turbo, it will make good power on 10psi, will make heaps at 15psi and will be able to push 17psi if you have to, and all on the standard manifold
