FC 13B-T in an SE?

Ok, maybe a stupid question, but here goes. I was offered a screaming deal on an FC 13B turbo engine/ 5 speed tranny combo. It has about 30K miles on it. Guy wants $1000.
What kind of modifications am I looking at to get this into my '84 SE? More importantly, is it even possible? The current engine is the original 13B with ~132K and a slight dowl pin leak.
Just looking for some opinions from those of you knowledgeable in the ways of RX-7 craft!
Thanks,
-T-

What year is the 13bt? This is covered several times a week, if you do a search you'll find much info on it. The short answer is, its very doable, search and all the answers are out there. Post what year the engine is and we can help more.

The engine is a '91. And thanks, I'll look back through the forum for similar threads. I don't get on here as offen as I would like to keep the learning curve climbing. For some reason my boss frowns on me looking up car stuff at work? Sheesh!

For the S5 swap, start searching for Steve84gs's posts. He has THE 1st gen S5 swap. Make sure that you get the entire engine, intake system, harness, ecu, all sensors connected to it, along with the clutch, tranny and driveshaft.

There is a writeup in the archives that covers the basics involved, the S5 has a few differences due to it's electronic mop.

You will also need the wiring diagrams for both years. There is a link in my sig to the online FSMs that will help you out.

Hey trocoid, thanks for the info. The engine does come with everything you mentioned with the exception of the clutch. However, the clutch was replaced about a year ago. Is this going to be a problem? I know, I know...I need to read the links! lol.
By the way, hope Denver found you well for thanksgiving!

Once you start looking into it you'll realize that its not super complicated. As trochoid said look for posts by steve84gs TII (i forget his exact username) He's discussed many times how to go about making a S5 (89-91) engine work in a first gen with the stock ECU and no trickery. The main holdup is the electronic oil metering pump that must be retained. You use a GSL-SE front cover in order to mount the engine properly, this front cover must be modified in order to use the electronic OMP. i'm currently doing this on my setup (the engine I'm using is a 90) Go in the first gen archives and look for the "Chronicles of a T2 swap" thread, although he used a 88 engine, much of what he talks about applies to the S5 engine swap as well mounting the engine, modifying the shifter, driveshaft length, etc etc) Look at those threads and then ask specific questions, once you start piecing it together its not so hard.

Also check out recent posts by NIKOE, and his TII 1st gen.
He came up with a elegant 2nd gen style mounting system for the 1st gen.It works for S4 or S5 and allows use of the stock 2nd gen front cover. It still requires a bit of welding, but its welding of steel which is quite simple.Welding of aluminum is something a lot of people cant do.....
