actually, he is just moved the ports to the correct position then repatented it. the first guy who came up with the shape of the rotors and housing had the ports in the wrong place. there was a book about him

Why do I have to be buttering you up?
Wankel wasn't the founder of the rotary engine. It was around long before he started his work on it.
Wankel perfected the rotary engine for mass production and use and he came up with a unique housing design and seal design that made he engine much more reliable than previous attempts.
He came up with some pretty complex rotary engines that failed before he settled for the design we know and love.
This link follows the history pretty closley from what I recall from researching the rotary engine for an engineering class I was taking.

Trochoid, he's not buttering you up, it's just fun prodding at old guys such as yourself because it allows us youngin's to enjoy life while we still can. Y'know, before we hit 40 (I'm so going to get creamed for this, I know it) and spend all our time in our garage making a double wide body 1st Gen with a 26B.

Are you going to get creamed, don't ask that question. It leaves you open for too many responses that aren't appropriate for and are against the forum rules, lol. Besides, haven't you heard, 'Life begins at 40'. If I'm still here and kicking when I start my 2nd '40', I'll let you know how the 1st one went.
