That's really cool! Thanks for all the pics guys. How does someone go about becoming a rally driver? I might do it.

rally driving takes a lot of patience and ballz. you are driving flat out on blind roads that you have never seen before. you learn that the handbrake is not for parking and that if your *** end is behind you then you are going to slow. you also learn car control that will make you far better on the street and in bad conditions. to start you will need to attend driving schools and get an scca novice license. its around 1000 for some of the courses. i believe florida has a good european type school for rally.

You're better off getting one already built for Club/Pro
Rally events. You would most likely put more money
into the 'really cheap beater' than you would in one
built already.

A good place to check out is:

http://www.bensrallypage.com/

He is a little behind right now in posting newer ads
but has a pointer to a page where people are hopefully
using right now until he catches up and gets the
automated system installed.

The most fascinating aspect of rallying to me has been
being able to stay affordable for most people to race
in. You don't have to have multiple sponsors or be a
multi-millionaire like in NASCAR, Indy, ect. The greatest
slogan they have is "Real Cars, Real Roads, Real Fast"
And it's not all left turns

Also, last time I knew, one did not need a scca novice
license to get started, you just may be limited to how
many of the stages you're let on and you definately
won't be able to do Pike's Peak seeing as how I think
that one is invitation only.

If you're serious and want to use an FB for ProRally level
driving you should get in now. SCCA has been
considering revamping their rules to start weeding out
the older cars 20+ years and older so that the sport
doesn't become a bunch of beaters Also they want to
start limiting ProRally races to pros which I hope they
don't as the real draw to the sport I think is anyone
being able to get involved in it. They'd like to see the
amateurs go more towards the ClubRally races instead.
This is all rumor as far as I know right now and it will
hopefully stay that way for a long time but who knows.

The only real thing I'll do is jack it up and put bigger wheels on it - Not ridiculous, just bigger. Since I'm not using it to rally, and it really is just a ressurected scrap heap (It's been wrecked real good before), I won't concern myself with gearing it correctly. (Will look to LSD it, though.)
It's just to peel around in the snow with!

So, How does one "jack up" a car, anyway? Can I use the springs that are in it, and just make hollow cylindrical spacers to fit?

For the best snow tires around here is a quote from one
of my emails from a rally list:

HAKKAPELIITTA is still the best snow tyre you can use, Made by
the NOKIAN tyre company in Finland and sold in this area by Mi. Garage Inc.
in Marquette. for info contact Me ; fax (906) 226-SAAB, Phone (906) 226-CARS,
or by e-mail at Fahrnordmqt@AOL.Com Rex

Also wasn't there a 4wd FB that a few rally teams used back when our cars were new? The reasons I ask is because I just got a parts car and am trying to think of what I could do with it after I take the things I want off of it. I might decide to restore it actually, but I was just curious. TIA
Ok, one more post just for the guy from NJ. Check this
ad out:

http://www.specialstage.com/forum/cg...umID14/56.html

Also, I think the closest ProRally coming up for you if
you're interested in getting a closeup of the race and
maybe seeing some 7's in action is:

Susquehannock Trail ProRally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
on June 1st - 2nd

See http://www.stpr.org/ for more info. Looking over
the current listing and it doesn't seem to have any
7's on it but it isn't a complete listing yet.
