FB Oil Coolers

What is the difference between the 84/85 GSL-SE air oil cooler and the early FB (82 and earlier) oil cooler? Were they a part of the radiator? The reason I ask is that I found some in the junkyard yesterday and they look just like a GSL-SE oil cooler. Any info is appreciated.

I believe that the GSL-SE cooler and the early 79-82 are pretty much the same animal. Both were mounted below the rad, IIRC.

I don't think one is better than the other but the SE one mounts in front of the rad while the earlier ones mount under the rad.

you could use a FC cooler, but you would have to fabricate your own brackets. Judgeing by your s/n i'm guessing you have an 85 gs?....

Anyway you allready have the mounts for the SE cooler in your car. The SE cooler would be just a bolt in swap, as far as the cooler itself goes.

the se one is a tad longer (1" maybe) and the brackets are different, it mounts in front of the radiator.

Yea, if you have a S3 car then the SE cooler would be the easiest to install, but they are harder to find. The 79-82 is a bolt in mod too, but you gotta change the radiator, not like thats a big deal.

sigh... while were on this subject, I'll ask the question I NEVER get an answer to.

Does anybody have any pics of an FC oil cooler setup in S3 (84-85) WITH a/c installed?
