FB Oil Cooler Options

I've got a stripped 84' 12a I'm planning to put into my '85 GSL rear end swapped GS and I am looking to replace the beehive style oil cooler.

The main thing I am wondering is how I would get the oil through the cooler. Is there a plate or pedestal offered that will bolt onto the motor where the old beehive was located and provide points to plumb oil lines to the cooler and also allow the filter to be threaded in? Or are there places to plumb lines off the block?

The places are there on the block: 1 on the rear plate, the other on the front cover. The beehive cooler connects to those same locations.

What lines you use will depend on the oil cooler you're fitting. If you fit a 1st gen RX-7 radiator mounted cooler, you can just run lines from an early RX-7. Or you can get new lines made up.

You can replace the beehive with an oil filter pedestal from any early engine or an FC engine. The FC ones are lower profile and look nicer in my opinion. Should also be very easy to find

Honestly, I would install a GSL-Se oil cooler as it is a direct bolt in. You will need to modify or replace your left side lower radiator mount with one from a GSL-SE to accommodate the oil cooler lines. The S2 oil cooler lines and the GSL-SE oil filter pedestal will be needed as well as the hard metal coolant line that feeds coolant from the radiator to the heater core as there is an extra bung for the beehive style oil cooler. I capped my bung when I installed a GSL-SE engine into my 85 GS.

You will also need to GSL-SE oil pedestal or a 1983-before to replace the beehive. There are a few aftermarket ones that would also work.

Once example. Oil Presssure /Temperature Sensor Adapter for RX7 1975-1985 - Racing Beat

Aren't they designed to attach to the pedestal though?

I have the old RE-Speed one that replaces the ensure pedestal. My comment about the RB one was misleading.

This will work with the RB one to be able to add sensors.

This one claims to be a complete pedestal
