FB LED Headlight Conversion
Has anyone converted the headlights on their FB to LED? If so what kit did you use? I really need to get rid of those sealed beams, but don't want HID's

Im in the process of working this out. But my setup is completely custom, the only factory parts that will remain are the headlight hinge assm and the exterior cover.
Im planning on using Speaker Lighting Co. Model 90mm lamps. they are around $750 for the set of 4. And all 4 have to be on for high beam operation (which differs from the factory wiring setup). For the reduced raised height of lights im fabing a system with a pair of 45lb 12v linear motors from Firgelli Automation.
A job like this is no simple task, and expect $150-300 PER LAMP for LED stuff.

7" H4 headlights are out there. Google 7" h4 headlights. I got mine from a VW van resto site. Can't remember the name. The price was right and they came with H4 bulbs which my 2 year old got to. I was gonna do the relay mod for headlights, but the LED draws so little that I'll put that off. Which I'm good at. Ebay is good too.

Interesting, I have been contemplating LED for all my SA lights for awhile now. I already have the
H4 conversion thanks to BD. Might look into swaping these in to see how they work as
replacements.

It looks like GE is selling LED assemblies now as well. They look like the Trucklites in the photos I have seen so they might be. There is also the JW Speaker brand which are quite a lot more money.
When I was looking into this I found the Off road Jeep guys seem to really like these as they put out a great pattern with lots of light and are pretty much indestructible. The other group that has gravitated to them are the Harley crowd. The pattern is wide and bright and illuminates the ditch really well so they can see the deer that is about to jump out in front of them.
I really like them, better than the Cibies I had on my 82 with off road bulbs. I honestly don't see how you could be disappointed if you put in a set of these.
These photos were from the day I installed them in Dec of 2012.

I wish I could. I've tried to take night photos to show this off and it is extremely difficult. I don't have the talent or the equipment to make this happen in a way where you can tell anything meaningful. The long running thread on the Jeep forum I looked at a while back had photos that were better than anything I managed. But he has been doing them for quite a while.

There are a lot of messages in the thread below. Not too far down they post some photos. The left one is stock low beams and the right is Trucklite low beams.
Link to thread about LED headlights
Based on EXIF tags they were taken with the same camera at the same settings although those could be fudged. I am guessing the stock 30 year old SA/FB bulbs are considerably worse than the stock bulbs represented in those photos.
They talk about flickering in the thread but that is a "Jeep Thing" because Jeep apparently does some sort of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) to the bulbs which you can't see with a filament bulb but can with LED's. Stock SA's and FB's don't have anything like that and it is not an issue. The other thing that is mentioned in the thread is that there is a hot spot which is actually V shaped. I only noticed this when I had the bulbs adjusted too low because it placed the V hot spot too close to the car out front and it tended to draw your eyes to it. I doubt it would be a problem for most people and I found it very helpful when adjusting the bulbs.
I hope that helps.

Is so, that is my dream setup I've wanted to do forever but never had the tinkering time.
