FB fuel pump: lean runnin: overheatin

the fuel pump on my 83 gsl broke, actually i broke it........accidents.....i temporarily replaced it with a pump out of an 82 gs. the car runs, but i want to know if it is running lean due to the difference in the pumps. i dont want to cook my engine so i havent been driving it. but i was unaware of the potential problems so i did drive it for about a week, not hard just across town blah blah. i replaced the thermostat and i might have effed up the oil pressure sensor cause now its going from zero then it jumps to 60 for a few seconds then drops back down. if my engine was cooked it would be reading zero all the time right?? new to the rotary game. be gentle

j/k man. Let's see. First of all, it's not easy to cook your engine from being too lean. If the pump is malfunctioning resulting in a extreme lack of fuel, it'll feel like a rev limiter when you go past 4-5k rpm.

How would replacing the thermostat **** up your oil pressure sensor? I didn't get that part. In any case, make sure the connector to the sensor is dirt/grime/oil free. If that doesn't work, you might have to get a new one. Many people prefer aftermarket rather than stock pressure sensor and gauges. Can't say I blame them.

I have an under-performing fuel pump (the pressure is about .3 below minimum ) in my 85GSL, and what happens is that it runs fine until I go down the freeway at 70 for awhile and then come to an uphill, and then it starts to miss. Finally it bogs down and I'm gasping along at 40mph. But it doesn't overheat, so I don't think that's your problem.
