FB Axle Swap into an RX-2 - Need some info

Guys,
I'm looking to put a GSL-SE suspension under my RX-2, but a) don't have one ad b) love my rims, so I don't want to change the bolt pattern (yet). I want to put a GSL suspension underneath so I can swap to a GSL-SE setup later without much trouble, but I can get my LSD and bushings soon. I need some info, though, before I can make this all happen.

If someone has access to any FB axle, I need to know how far apart the spring perches, shock mounts, and leading links are, as well as how wide the axle is between the bearings (overall width). I'm trying to figure out if I can reuse the perches and mounts, and if I need to shorten the axle (I think I will). If someone has an axle around, can you take a tape measure to it and give me the inner distances between these things? Also, is there anyone that's looking to unload a GSL rear end? I gave mine to a fellow autocrosser on the forum back in KS and am looking for some good karma...... I need need front spindles and everything, too.

I have some numbers for you. I don't want to get rid of the rear end but you could use it for mock up if you like.

These numbers are +/- 1/8" - just for preliminary figuring.

Over all axle width from rotor surface to rotor surface = 57.5" (Where wheels mount)

Centerline of spring perches = 37.5" - Centered on axle.

Centerline of shock mounts = 40.5" - 5" back from center of axle. 1" wide gap.

Centerline of upper links = 45.75" - 3" back from center of axle. 1.875" wide gap.

Centerline of lower links = 40.5" - 3" back from center of axle. 1.875" wide gap.

Let me know if you need any other numbers. Also, FB front struts are shorter than SA struts. I remember FB struts on an rx3 lowered it way down. We always used SA struts.

Well, I've got coil-overs up front and can adjust the height, but when I put an SE axle underneath for the big discs, I'll put SE spindles up front at the same time. If you know of a GSL axle that pops up in the metro area, let me know. Thanks so much for the numbers. I'm gonna hop on some 3D CAD stuff and get to modeling. If I can take the right amount from the right places, I'd like to think I can use original mounting points on the body.

Thanks again.

Do you know what the O.D. of the axle is? Also, if I shorten my axle, assuming it's a 84-85, I should be able to shorten a set of GSL-SE axle shafts and put them into the GSL axle and diff, right? Would I have a problem bolting the GSL-SE end plates onto a GSL axle face?

Can you pull the elevation dimensions for the different mounts as well? Also, are the shock mounts and lower links both built onto the same bracket?

I'm modeling all this right now, and just wish I remembered more about how mine looked.

Thanks.

Axle Update

I'm looking to cut the brackets off my RX-2 axle and weld them to a shortened GSL-SE axle so I can reuse the links and coilover rear. It ain't much yet, but here's my mockup. Now I just gotta find that -SE parts pile.

axle woes

back from spending the summer in australian winter!

hedded off to the 'pick and pull' half off day tomorrow, with my eyes on a gsl rear end as well... I can take some detailed photos, and get more accurate dimentions as well. in reasearching an axle swap for my 2 things have changed a little.... I might end up with this one in the 3... either way I'll take pictures and post.

sorry I couldn't help out with the rx2 hood hinges you where looking for.. end up finding some? (I've got three 2s and three good hinges.. one pair and a spare!)

where is our beloved vintagerotaries.com?? I feel so alone.

What kind of link setup does the RX-2 have? I would think that for all the effort of installing the rear end from a GSL, you might as well spend some cash for a panhard bar as well.

rx-2s got a panhard.... but everyone seems unsatisfied with the factory geometry.
