Rear brake calipers for large brake conversion.
Theoretically, if I were to do one of the following:
Get TII/GXL/Vert (FC 5 lug) brakes redrilled for 114.3 mm x 4 bolt
OR
Get axles made that had 114.3 mm x 5 bolt hubs and fit into the 1st gen axle housing
I would be able to mount the large FC brake rotors on the solid axle housing AND I'd keep a similar offset. Also, provided that the hat of the rotor is of comparable size, the caliper should sit in the same place.
Now supposing I get that all nice and set up and the rotor fits and is centered and these custom axles don't fall apart or anything like that... Suppose getting the rotor on the axle is no problem...
How would I go about mounting the caliper? Will an FC large brake caliper fit 1st gen bracket, or will the FC bracket bolt up to the axle?
Could someone post pics on how they've set up custom rear brake setups?
Just futzing with some ideas in my head.
I could theoretically fabricate a bracket, but This being brakes and the amount of force I'd like it to stand up to, I don't think anything I could come up with would pass my standards.

RWD should have a 60/40 split.
FWD should have a like 80/20 split.
Regardless it's to match the TII brakes and hubs that are all too easy to put on the front end.
2nd gen rear calipers mount up front,so if you did mount them on the 1st gen axle housing, the bleeders and hoses would be in the wrong place/upsidedown.
Theres really no reason to change the rear calipers. The TII/GXL rear calipers arent any bigger than the 1st gen rears.Plus, the TII/GXL rear rotors are only .6" larger around than the vented SE rear rotors.Stock SE rear rotors and calipers with EBC pads and stainless lines compliment my 12" front brakes very well.Even with 245's out back I can still lock em' up.

You are getting a lot of opinions from people who obviously have never done this. Best get your advice form someone who knows what it takes to make it work. I have done it, front and rear conversion, and I engineered it to use the stock handbrake cables, brake hoses, and master cylinder on my 1984 GSL. It has very powerful and well balanced braking, requires 15 inch wheels or larger.
Take a look at this thread, the 13th post, and if you want more photos or have questions, just send me a PM. The front end parts we fabricated will fit any 1984-85 rx-7 and the rear parts will fit any 1984-85 GSL or GSL-SE.

Not to take anything away from your setup,Stilettoman its sweet.....but how do you bleed your rear brakes with the bleed screws on the bottom?
Granted, its not that often you have to do it,but still the question remains.
With air settleing at the top of the piston chamber, and the bleeder on the bottom, getting air to evacuate would be tough.

Now I wonder if he'll be interested in selling adapters.
