FB Audio?

Is there anywhere you can get the stero combo with the Equalizer for a 1st Gen car? I have a GS and would like to change out the unit for one with the Equalizer in it. Im guessing it would just plug in like the once currently installed.

Thanks, Rb

Series 2 or 3.. I'm not so sure but I believe all models came with two amps. For series 2 one is under the driver bin and under the driver seat. Everything should wire up but the systems that came with EQ also had a joystick balancer. If you have all stock wiring then everything should hook up

Cars an 84 GS. I do not see anything like that at all. I will look again. I guess the one on the storage bin will be mounted just like the pic, my bins are empty.

Thanks a lot jinxed. How difficult would it be to wire them in if I dont have any of the connections?

the connectors for the amps will be there so no wiring necessary. the harnesses are universal from the S to the GSL. all mazda did was add the accessories in kept cost low by using the same harness. the GSL-SE's front harness is different but the rear harness is identical.

I'll send your the pigtails so you can splice them back into your wiring if they've been cut.

I appreciate the offer man. I just confirmed with a guy and he is sending me his Eq, amps, and wiring. I just hope I have the connections there. I looked again today and I see nothing under the seat. IN the storage bin, I see a white plug where I guess the amp was to be connected.

Does the trim around the stereo just pop off like the shifter plate so I can get in there and put the Eq in? How do you get around to the back to plug in the Eq wiring?

i'll pul my drivers bin after supper and take a pic and post it for you. it will show the amp location and wiring. no amp under the seat on an 84-85, only under the bins.

Thanks 713b. Pics help me alot since I really don't know what I'm doing. There is a white plug in the bin behind the drivers side. Also, when I fixed the shifter plate, I saw a white connector laying by the shifter. There was also two small connectors in there. I figured it went to the power windows and fader for the equalizer that my car does not have.

Are you talking about actually pulling the bin itself out of the car? I was just looking in them????

sorry, i fell asleep...yeah, there are 6 screws that hold the bin in. remove those, pull it slightly out, collapse teh lower fabric to allow you to slide the bin out and unhook the connectors for the light and set teh bin aside. the amp is affixed to the bin's bracket towards the front of the car. i'll grab the pics lafter work. working 7a-7p today.

okay, thanks man. That is a prime example of how you have to spell everything out for me. I was just looking in the bins.

Does it matter if its series 2 or 3 if I get the amps and wiring? Some guy said they would not work if they were different???

correct. you need to stay with S3 amps if you do not want to splice any wiring. it just makes installation (if your car does not have the amps) eaiser and your car will remain unmolested.

Thanks, that is what Im getting so everything should work fine. Again, thanks for the knowledge here.

I understand the plastic piece just pops off around the stereo, will I be able to get to the back to plug everything up or will I have to remove something else?

Glad to see you're going to restore your radio to original conditions making it pristine! The EQ and joystick balancer with the digital tuner and cassette player was top technology back in the day! As for the wires you just need to reach your arm around and feel your way through if you know the back of the radio pretty well. Otherwise you may try working with as far as the cables can extend out and hook it up then install the unit in place.

p.s. heres my old thread: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/factory-premium-sound-system-481500/
