fan clutch 83 vs 84

fan clutch 83 vs 84
Is there a difference between the fan clutch assembly between the 83 12A and 84A? I tried bolting the fan from my old 84 on the 83 engine and for some reason I just couldn't get it to line up. Is it me or the fan?
