FA, FB, etc
Curious, I keep seeing what I assume are model references, FA, FC, and so on. Can someone explain what these are and is my 84 SE the same as a 84 GSL?
Do the 84/85 SEs have their own F reference as they are a lot different, 13B, suspension, and so on.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello.
First take a look at the 1st gen FAQ. Lots of good info. You can get to the FAQ here: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/1st-gen-rx-7-faq-page-237777/
For your question, read:

Basically, it is in reference to the VIN code of the car. Yes, the 84 SE and the 84 GSL are both FBs.
Hope this helps.

mike, here you go:
79-80-SA
81-85-FB
86-91-FC
93-95-FD
the GSL is different from the GSL-SE. the SE had bugger brakes front and rear with vented discs in the rear as opposed to solid discs on the GSL and the GS. the SE also had the EGI engine. the engine was designated the 13B. it is a 1308cc 2 rotor producing 135HP and 133lb/ft of torque as opposed to the other models' carburated 12A displacing 1146cc 2 rotor. the 12A produced 101hp and 105lb/ft of torque. the SE also had more standard features such as air, cruise, power windows, moon roof, upgraded clarion stereo, lined center console and glove box, and upgraded suspension and brakes to list a few. the SE and below are still FB's as are all 81-85 models. this should be a quick reference to get you started.
