ok ive been at this for 2 days now and im stumpped i about to rip this gauge out n throw it away.

heres the prob. im installing a autometer a/f gauge i bought a o2 sensor at work, the sensor has 4 wires coming out of it. it has 2 whites 1 black and 1 grey. im purrty sure that the grey wire is the signal wire and the black is the ground. i wired the grey wire off the o2 with the purple wire off the gauge and used a battery i have to run power to the gauge to check . the gagaue has 3 wires a red a black and a purple. i hooked the red and black to the batt. and the black from the o2 i grounded.
all the senor does is light up and sit on rich. i thought maybe let it get warm but nothing it just sits their.
then
i thought maybe the white wires they prob do something but hooked them up to the batt like the gauge says to but nothing
can anyone help me out

its a rotary, what did you expect? they run rich. those gauges are junk. you want true results, save up for a wide band.

 

You bought the wrong O2 sensor......all you need is a single wire sensor.
Also,sounds like you need to be more careful wiring it up,cant just start hooking things to batteries and such.On the gauge,red goes to power,black goes to ground,and the purple goes to the 1 wire coming from the 02 sensor.
Once wired up and turned on,the engine has to heat the O2 sensor to about 800* before it starts sending a signal.

All you need is a 1 wire sensor,the heated element 4 wire sensor is wasted on your application........and yea,narrow band A/F gauges are junk.

 

Yeah, you may have wrecked your o2 sensor. And you do just need a 1 wire sensore (like a stock gslse o2 sensor). The narrow band shows stoich and fluctuations in either direction. It has it's place, it says whether you are lean or rich vs 14.7, but that is it. I had one, and now run a true wideband from autometer. Can't beat the difference as a tuning tool. Narrow band makes for a cool light show anyway.

 

Siwtch the balck and gray wire.
Black is your signal
Gray is ground
white is 12v switch

 

I too have this A/F meter. It is just a single wire hook up.

I should really wake up before I start typing. LOL! Yes a single wire would sufice but the 4 wire you have will work as well with better accuracy and quicker response due to the heater element. You already have the parts so you might as well use it until you can get a wideband. Having the a/f meter is better than not having anything at all.
