I agree with Sean. You need a cat and smog pump. I would do a real good tune up and make sure your not running real rich. My next emissions test (and last one ever) is in April. I have my emissions tuff removed. I'm going to put my cat back on and get an electric smog pump and run it directly to the cat. Prior to the removal of my emissions stuff I passed with flying colors.

From what I can tell the NJ inspection is pretty similar to the CT one, I've never had much problem passing smog, but then the majority of my engine is stock, other than the RB header and muffler, and few other little things here and there. Make sure its running good and you should be ok.

Yea you might be able to register it as a classic or whatever CT calls it, with those mods you won't go through very easily...

83 this year in ATL would have to go. I passes mine with just a cat. the cat is a Catco brand i guess, and said high flow. No smog pump, and no rats nest.

I was told to put the smog pump on and pump air to the cat so that I could burn off the gas better. What the emissions guy did for me was after i tune the carb down as lean as i could get it with out it cutting off he pulled the break booster hose. That allowed even more air into the intake. Car didn't stall out so that was good.. and I passed emissions in ATL.

In ATL you get a second go, like 1 chance to get your repairs done. I posted my emissions read out here. If you already have a read out then you maybe able to do what I did. If you need my current read out will be happy to post it as well.

I just passed CT emissions this month. The car is an 85SE with a Racing Beat road race header and a Racing Beat street port ehaust. All emissions equipment was removed when I got the car. I dropped the RB center section (with the pre silencers) got a cat and fabbed up the pipe to connect it all. I put the air pump back on, connected up the ACV (based on the vacuum drawings in the FSM), and connected the split air pipe to the cat. Passed on the first try with excellent numbers.
