Exhuast
I want to put a new exhuast on my 83 rx-7, i was wondering if any one knows of an exhuast that you can adjust the loudness similiar to a varex exhuast that can go from straight piped to muffled that 1st of all will be able to handle a rotary loudness and second of all handle the heat other wise ill probably go with a compleate raceing beat system
Years ago I tried a Super Trapp adjustable muffler with horrible results. When I made it even a little quiet , it killed the power. When I opened it up enough to make even a little power, it was so loud you could not stand it. Like Farrell says, stick with Racing Beat, and he is right the streetport system they sale is the best, IMHO.
With regards to sound, and I apologize for not opening my own thread, but it seemed relevant. Has anyone every installed only an RB catback so that they could still pass emissions? Is this worth the money, or does it have little impact on the sound of the exhaust without doing a full headerback exhaust.

having the RB on an otherwise stock car probably would make it a little quieter. power should go up, but maybe 1-2hp tops, so you're unlikely to notice that as well.
the difference is if a high flow cat was installed the RB muffled car would stay quiet, and the stock muffled car gets tinny and raspy
its been done. with the stock system most of the muffling/tone comes from the cats, so any cat back has a small impact.

I may be alone, but I actually like the tinny rotary metal-on-metal sound that rotaries make. I've assumed that's what people are talking about when they refer to a tinny noise.

Thanks, that's basically what I was looking for. I'll probably pass on the muffler then, unless my stock one gets shot. I'd really like to get some more sound, but since emissions is a concern, I've probably got to leave the car alone.

Could you obtain the same effect with a high-flow cat, or would that defeat the purpose? Is there even anyone who makes a bolt-in replacement for the stock cats? I'd have done a full exhaust if I didn't have to worry about emissions.
I run a straight pipe on my bridgeported, supercharged 13B. It is really stupidly loud. I would not recommend it for a car that is driven more than to shows, or the occasional weekend cruise. But I grew up in Detroit, around muscle cars, so I don't mind it. My neighbors on the other hand...
