exhaust system

Will a exhaust system with no presilencer and no cat and only a muffler be too loud to run on the street? I know it is illegal. Will lack of back pressure be a problem?

It depends on the muffler. The Racing Beat muffler quiets down the car alot. Even with just a straight pipe as an exhaust.

I have run 6 cars with Racing Beat Header, straight pipe and muffler. They were never loud.

RB system might be quiet enough, but 99% of other mufflers just wont cut it. i would suggest if you are using a header to have atleast two mufflers, if not a resonator in there, too. they get extremely loud and it isnt a nice sounding loud, either.

or just buy the RB.. but thats too pricey for me.

dude you would want a pre-silencer.
i have a racing beat header straight pipe to the muffler,
way to loud, I bought it like that.
and im deffinately investing in a new exhaust system.

I have a straight pipe with a header into a RB muffler. I will link a vid, sounds great and not that loud either. I also had an '85 with a factory manifold and a straight pipe into a glasspack, sounded horrible, and was loud enough to wake the dead.

As long as you have the RB muffler you dont need a pre-silencer. Give me a few, I will upload some videos with no music.

Here is a good one, I just revved the **** out of it a few times. That is from idle to at least 7.5K maybe 8K not loud at all.

wow, that didn't really even overlead the mic...was that jsut a digicam or what?
The RB muffler has a bunch of baffles in it like Flowmasters and turbo mufflers correct, not like Mangaflow's straight through style?

Another example I have here:

85 GSLSE.

Regular exhaust manifold
Bonez Presilencer/cat
Flowmaster

What did this equal too? It was a tad bit louder than a Header, straight pipe, RB muffler.

The only thing some people say that the RB muffler is restrictive, but to put up with other mufflers (most of them loud and not durable), or put more than one in a first gen, I rather bite the bullet and buy a new RB one.

You get what you paid.

The "Muffler" is usually the key to the outcome of the noise level. Even with a presilencer if you have a straight thru design muffler the noise level will be loud.

so, using a magnaflow muffler and presilencer would be signifiganty louder than just an RB muffler since it is a straight through type?

my exhaust is about 110db (i think) and that is straight through with just a rotaflow muffler (pertty much straight through style with baffles) and a dump tip.

sounds unreal though! awesome exhaust note
