exhaust question
I have recently found leaks in my RE center section. The presilencers have small hole where they have been draged on the ground. I was thinking about replacing the center section with 2 1/2 stright pipe. 1. Will this be to loud? Keep in mind this is a weekend car not a DD anymore. 2. Is there anywhere i might be able to get an replacement center section other than the for sale section? How much should I expect to pay? I really dont know anything about exhaust and dont wanna get fu**ed.

The straight pipe will be quite loud and will sound like *** on top of it too. Your best option might be to weld a patch around the bottom of the pre-silencer to cover the holes and add some protection to it. Do you have dual pipes coming off of the RE header with 2 pre-silencers or a single? I know RE had a short collector that bolted to the dual RE headers. I don't know if RB has one or not, but the bolt and gasket pattern for the RE and RB duals are the same.
My RE had the collector that went straight into thier pre-silencer. I cut it up so I could run my 3" exhaust off of it. If your's is a single exhaust, PM me.

Yea Scott its dual into a collector into the first presilencer. I believe te main difference between the RE and the RB is the flange is reversed if i remember right. I dont think there is any way of patching the presilencers there is just to many small holes in them. Mainly the back 1. The front I might be able to save.

Yeah, I have that same system on my SA and the one thing thats always been a small issue is how far down it hangs under the car. The presilencers hook together to make up the middle section and I can see how if your not careful they could get damaged running over bumps and such. I would think a muffler place would be able to patch them up with extra thick steel on the bottom welded in place.
You may be able to take the RB street port center section, turn it over and use it for the exhaust but it would require some fab work as it would be bent the wrong way. See the pic for what i mean:

A straight through pipe would probably not be good, might get you a ticket as well.

Took my car to work today there is no fixing them the front has to much damage and the rear was completely gone. What are my options? I really don't wanna spent to much money. $155 to $200 for 1 presilencer is a little more than i wanna spend.

Mine is too loud. I have half bridge 12A, RB street header (2-1) -> 2.5" cat -> 2.5" resonator 14"long -> OEM walker muffler and my car is LOUD at idle.
I had my neigbors out yesterday around 5pm! looking at me 1. smoking cause of the ATF pouring out 2.sound. So then it idle for 15 minutes a few revs then I'm putting all my tools away and the Po rolls by.
I'm probably going to ditch the 14" and get a 24"+ resonator.

I started my car for the first time today - I have had an Rx7 for over two years now and today is the first day I have ever started one....
Anyway, at idle (700 rpms), that thing is quiet, especially for a car running right off of a full length header! I reved it up to 4k and drove it a bit and while it was loud, I don't think it is the ear bleeding loudness everyone whines about - it wasn't really any louder than any other car running only headers. So, I say rock that straight pipe!

Ok i went and got a quote for the exhaust but can anyone tell me 100% sure the racing beat dual flange will work with the RE? The 2 places i have found willing to do the work want a new flange instead of tring to use the 1 on the car now.
