Exhaust Question

I have bought two Ebay cannons that are 2 inch inlet and 3.5 inch outlet, I want to run a stainless 2.5/3 inch exhaust from the header and split it into two two inch pipes before the axle. I think this will be way too loud for the street, let me know if I'm wrong, take into consideration the police and the sheriff are very leniant around here, they have better things to do than pull loud cars over. But if I am excessivley loud I'm sure they'll let me know.

I am also considering using a muffler with one inlet pipe and 2 outlet pipes to make the split, maybe a flowmaster 50 series because they are quieter than the 40 series, or some othe aftermarket muffler. I dont really want a presilencer just want to keep it simple, its obviously going to be loud, and that really doesnt bother me. just give me some input on how loud either of these setups will be, and weather or not I will need more sound deadening. I have a racing beat set up now, and its getting rotted and old. If you help me decide I will post audio of the results
Thanks,
Loki

it will be loud, and then after a few days, even louder as the fiberglass in the cheap ebay cannons will blow out. my friend has a rb header to a rb pre silencer, then to a ebay cannnon, and its loud.

i also think that a flowmaster muffler will restrict flow, and hinder your power, so i would see about finding another route as far as splitting the pipes. i do think that you should have a second form of silencer though.

Correction, the e-bay cannons will last. I had one on my car before the 12A went, and I'll be using two when I get it running again. It blew out a little bit of the fiberglass, but the heat isn't nearly as much as up near the engine and its been said that a regular muffler can last a long time out there.

I would suggest using an 18" long magnaflow 5x8 muffler with single inlet and dual outlets in place of you 50 series flowmaster. If I remember correctly from a thread a while back, there was mention that flowmaster doesn't even approve of the use of their mufflers on a rotary as the head will break the welds over time. Also, if you plan to have one outlet on each side of the car, think again. There isn't even enough room for an exhaust pipe on the drivers side of the gas tank, let alone a whole muffler. The way I'm getting around this is by using a fuel cell mounted between the frame rails. This involves cutting out the spare tire well and a lot of fabrication.

Trust me on this, get that exact magnaflow in a stainless body and you won't be disappointed. It will be plenty quiet.

Put on what ever muffler you want. If it turns out to be loud, go back to the muffler shop, drop that 50 pound cat (IF YOU STILL HAVE ONE), have them make you a new midpipe with a presilencer. It will probably set you back about 50 to 100 bucks depending on how friendly you are with your muffler shop. I haven't noticed any difference in power with mine running a presilenser.

What motor are you running? If it's ported and you have stainless mufflers it will be f*&*ing loud. I run twin system to join at diff with two resonators and one muffler. It is loud but not over the top considering it's a PP. Also you will not gain muchextra power by going much larger than 2-2.25" for headers, just more noise

I had on my car a single 3" (I know, I overdid it, and I learned from it) exhaust system with a single in dual out magnaflow muffler (made to single in single out) as mentioned above. I had that mounted just before the axle, then after the axle came my fart cannon. With the silencer in the fart cannon, I couldn't hear my car coming down the road toward my house untill it was 3 houses away. Someone else was driving the car at the time. This was on the original 12A engine with stock exhaust manifold.

I had the same setup on the new engine and drove it up and down the road once before I decided to go carb. It was only marginally louder, and this was on a 13B 6 port motor that has been streetported.

I dont want much bigger than 2.5 inch, I junked the cat a long time ago. And I know that glass packs will "crack" as they wear in, I am not running a true dual exhaust either, both cannons will be on the passenger side. I know they will fit, trust me on that. I am thinking of dropping some cash on a RB presilencer, but if I can find some kind of a muffler I will try for that. Magnaflow has an SD muffler designed for extreme heat, but I think it will be restrictive...... I dont have a whole lot of money at this particular moment, but in about a week or two I'll be able to do this.

And Im not going to a muffler shop, My father has a pipe bender and I'm a proficient welder. I have a rotary engineering header and a RB exhaust and its loud, probably because of the porting.... but I want it to be "noticable" and when I am accelerating I really dont care if I can hear my stereo, so take that into account, we're just trying to stay below the cops radar. quiet is out ultra loud is out, I want something reasonable.
Thanks,
Loki
