Question Exhaust--Mindtrain vs Racing Beat???

I am looking into a new exhaust system
and am wondering which to go with.

I have heard that Mindtrain and Racing beat
exhaust systems are the best, so my question
is which one is better for the money??,
better for the performance??, better for the
price, etc...

any help here would be great, just looking for
feedback to make a final decision.

Thanks
Mark

I understood them to be almost identical, which would leave price and avaliability as our distinction. I say RB of course I am biased.

When I was shopping for exhaust, I contacted Mindtrain and talked to one of the guys about their systems. He said straight out that the system was loud, maybe not loud enough to get me pulled over, but he wasn't gauranteeing anything....

Mindtrain runs about $550.00 for a full system from what I remember (this was over a year ago). I ended up going with Racing Beat instead and haven't regretted the decision.

Here's an article on a comparison of the two systems by Jim Rothe http://www.jimrothe.com/mazda/exhaust.html

It includes a link to mindtrain.....

The good thing about MindTrain, so I hear, is that you can use their header with the stock precats. *cough* gutted *cough* so that you don't violate the clean air laws. (According to clean air laws, one can not change the number or location of stock catalytic converters... In this case, true dual exhausts are illegal. This is a federal law, although not widely enforced. Depends on the smog ***** in your area.)

Take note that Mr. Lane dB tested the Mindtrain setup at 108 dB! That's WAY louder than the legal limit (at least in my area) and will get you pulled over if you accellerate hard while driving on the street.

20 years ago, I had the Mindtrain...

Neighbors, (and cops) would tell me all the time that they could hear my car approaching from as far as 1/2 mile or more away (depending on conditions). If Mindtrain themselves are saying it is still loud, and you want to live in peace with the cops and neighbors, I would avoid it.

Did anyone check the MT links? It seems like you can only buy a muffler...

If someone is interested in the mindtrain just for the cat compatibility, you could probably just get the header and then run a racing beat muffler. I would think that would help with the noise issue.

RB.

Mazda went to RB to have exhaust systems designed for some of their cars. They didn't go to Mindtrain. 'Nuff said.

I called that RP place. He said the guy is stopping manufacture of them.. RB`s stuff has skyrocketed in price in the last few years too. Their road race headers used to be like $120.. Maybe back in 2000 or 2001. Now they`re 200+.. :-\ Wish they had a competitor.

I say neither. Go custom. To me this is the best way to go. As long as you get a good muffler (biggest magnaflow you can get), its not too loud. Also, I know I'm goin to get flamed for this, but use a fart cannon with a silencer in it. Use the magnaflow as a "premuffler" and use the fart cannon as a main muffler out the back with the silencer in it, and its quiet enough to satisfy anyone. I know from experience cause this is the next best thing to a RB setup, as far as loudness goes. Pretty much anything else will be too loud for most people.

Oh ya, about RB prices skyrocketing, its true. When I was researching this stuff 2 years ago, their headers were 120-150 bux. This was only 2 years ago! I decided to forget about RB system because it would have cost me $1200 cnd after I got it on my car. My custom system cost $450 doing it myself. And this is with trying 4 different mufflers on it. If ya take it to a muffler shop, it shouldn't take them much more than a few hours to fab a system up. Its incredibly simple to do for these cars.

I just installed the full rb system about 2 weeks ago, and all I can say is.. wow. It sounds awsome, fits perfect, and is wicked tough. The only drawback is yes, probably the price.

but if you have the money...

GET IT!!!! you won't be disapointed

Fred at mindtrain said for 84 to 85 rx7's there is no available header to hook up to the precats but a short pipe with flanges could be fabbed to the main cat. The stage v header is bolt on only for earlier rx7's........i wish it was though...god bless

**** ... i remember when the road race header cost less than $100 before shipping charges.

oh and they do have competition, it's just that the competition wants $600 for a header.

To harness the full effects of a free flowing exhaust system, you need to upgrade the carb as well. I went with a Sterling carb because it is the least expensive option and works great. You will also need to upgrade the fuel pump, and add a fuel pressure regulator. Once this is all done, you will reap the full rewards.

Here's a writeup on the fuel pump/fpr upgrade: https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=529605

www.kickyride.com is the only place I know of that might still carry Mindtrain products.

ok maybe I can help a bit here.

I actually have a mindtrain header in my FB. Its basically a Cheater header that will bolt on the factory exhuast system although Im running it with a full 2.5" exhaust and a huge Greddy muffler. I think it was made to replace the exhaust brick yet use the OEM pipes for some type of racing rules before. It is not better than the racing beat long headers, yet one thing I do say is that is well made and will last forever. I bought mine new a few years back and car runs great. It will not be louder than the racing beat header as both are just pipes...when comparing headers to headers...since that was the original question.

For full exhaust system mazda went with the RB system because its a direct replacement and would pass sound level laws yet provide extra HPs. Mindtrain was more of a race system.

my .02 cents

The website lists mindtrain but has no link to info.

I found this info

Mind-Train
256 S. Robertson Blvd
Beverly Hills, CA
310-836-4106

however calling the number I get the "disconnected number" recording.

Contact the site owner himself. I talked to him a couple of years ago and they were offering the Mindtrain setup for about the same price as the RB single pipe package.

Rotary Performance in Manassas VA (IIRC) is a Mindtrain dealer.
I have a full front to back Mindtrain exhaust system on my second gen vert. Too loud for my tastes. I am going to buy a cat bacsystem (RB) from a friend of mine to quiet it down.
