exhaust

hey i was thinking i should probably invest in an exhaust system for my gsl-se.
now i was wondreing which one i should go with, i know most of you are gonna say RB but it's pretty expensive and i was just wondering if it's worth it?
i dont wanna get some gay exhaust that just sounds like **** but i was wondering if RB was the only reliable supplier for exhausts.
oh and i was also looking for some sound clips of a 1st gen with a full rb setup.
thanks/

It would take some really crappy piping to make any exahaust on a rotary sound horrendous. Some may be louder than others, but the rotary has that unique tone that just cant sound bad. If you don't buy a premade exhaust goto a GOOD muffler shop and have them make you one, because good shops use high quality steel piping, and as long as its not **** piping it generally wont have any kind of echoey ricer twang to it, despite muffler or header choice.

i see, so you think maybe i could get an rb header and maybe a power pulse and have the rest made? i wonder if that'd be cheaper at all.. has anyone here done that?
thanks.

Yes you can always have a shop make your exhaust for you. Thats what I did, I went to one of the best shops in town, I paid about 170 total, with a magnflow muffler and dual tip. I kept it looking real stock, but it sounds awsome.

Also another reason to goto a quality shop is that they don't just use nice materials, bu they will weld it good, and if you have a poorly welded exhaust on these cars, you will blow through the welds.

You can either buy the RB ehxaust for 800 (im sure its a good system) or you can have one made for about 1/4 the price. Up to you really, I just always like the sound of custom made stuff better than pre-made at a factory cat-backs after comparing them with other cars.

I have the RB streetport system and I think it sounds really nice. Its exactly how the car should sound stock imo. If you want something really loud then rb is not it. I wanted to do a full exhaust and be able to install it myself because I'm picky about letting people I don't know work on my car and I bought this car so that I could work on it myself. The RB setup was completely bolt-on and while it does cost a crazy amount of money, somehow it seems worth it. For a comparison a borla cat back for newer cars can cost more than $1000 just for the cat-back. I figure RB stuff will probably last the life of the car or at least a really, really long time. I think a good alternative is to buy the rb pieces that you want and have the shop fab the rest for you. Those dual presilencers are heavy as a biatch.

I just put in a high flow cat and a magnaflow muffler 2.25" from header back.. Sounds awesome and probably a lot cheaper than getting an RB system shipped up here. Plus magnoflow is a straight through muffler which will flow better than RB's (as you can see in the link posted by Infini IV

For a header I would only go with RB, period. The only other option I know of is pacesetter, and they dont even compare to one another. Go RB for that.

You can find a rb header fairly easily on the for sale section, just be patient and you can get it for about 100, my only problem with rb systems is that they don't have a cat, so i had to run a custom bonez cat bolted to the rb header.

I have a RB header with blown out Bonz cat on my se. Stock muffler. Sounded really twangy. I have always liked the sound of the magnaflow muffler. That is my reccomendation. The RB sounds stock IMO. Oh also I dyno'd 124.9 to the rear entirely stock(minus header/cat of course) and that was with 180k on the clock. Spend the extra few buck and get a RB header!

Its just a matter of preference... I think the dual tips suits the rx7 a lot better than one big single tip
