Everyone loves a good project -- Door Panel
Ok so i desided that i would see if i could just get part of the door done tonight and have gotten so involved that it would apear that i'm doing the entire thing in one night. I have a few picks of the project and photobucket is being slow so i will edit the post as i go. (i don't think that i'm going to upload 2mg pics to this site either)so you will have to deal with what i have for now.
I will do image tags so that the images will be in this post and you will not have to click links.. may take a while to load but photbucket will resize them and make them smaller.
with out further adue!
the padding

The grim under the padding with glue.

the sanding--used a drimmel(sp) tool and sand paper... and sanded by hand. took the cap from a can of spray
paint and traced the circle on the sand paper and attached to the drimmel tool.

primed

Just a little suggestion. The glue residue is easily removed with laquer thinner or acetone. Remove it before you start sanding, saves on the sand paper. Thinner with a scotch brite pad works the best.
The 1st gen door panels are very easy to re-do, if you manage to save the padding on the top of the door. For the main part of the panel, I use headliner foam that comes with a cloth cover. Use the 3M 90 adhesive spray in a can to secure the padding and then the fabric to the panel.
My door panels look similiar now, until I find and order a fabric and vinyl that is a close match to the stock gray interior.

Aye i tried gas but did have a pacents for trying to remove the glue. So i just hit it with about 100 grit sand paper on the drimmel tool tood it right off. then hand sanded it down with 220. there are alot of little dips and everything in the door that are hard to get to. Over all i'm very pleased with it. The car is going to look rough for a bit of time. In the middle of moving and everything... so the next door will have to wait until about 2 weeks from now unless i get it taken care of tonight. which i may do. Read care with black interior and green door pannels... haha... i have got to finish up the inside so it at least matches.

I wish that i had the cha-ching to get a good paint job... guess for right now i can take the time to pull the rust out of it and paint over it to not let it rust though until i can get the paint job on the body.
I also think that the green will look better with a clear coat. Don't think that it is bad for first go... so will take it down and redo some of the paint after light sanding and get a clear coat on it to make it shine. but being that i like green, lime green, yellow green . . or what ever the color she picked out... It really stands out from the black.. just going to be really hard to match up with seats and the like... I feel a few years project coming on.
Thx for the input yall... and as far as power windows and such goes... i don't think that much difference other than the holes wil be in different spots. but don't know i have yet to see one with power windows... still need to get those doors... but for now this will hold me over and help keep me motovated.
