Better yet,do it yourself. You will learn so much by doing it,and they are pretty easy to work on.

ive wanted to but i honestly dont have the time, or the space, and if any of you rember the discusion about he 85 that had basically everything it needed to run, "compression-spark-fuel" that was my car, so i dont know what else could be wrong with it, and my dad says its not worth it to sit out there and waiste the time any more, and has decided to put as much of it together as we can and just take it up to mazda. as for taking it to TN id have to put it on a trailer all the way from ohio, and with out only vehical that can tow-being a Excursion v-10 turbo'd diesel and gas being close to 3 dollars a gallon im not thinking my dad would love that idea to much lol. but thx for the imput.

have either of you had just a plain mazda dealer replace the engine, and is that counting labor..

also when doing this, will they only put in another 12a.. or is there a chance that you could get them to put in the 13b, im not sure on the differance if they dont have to change ne thing i wouldnt see them saying no.? except that they would have to put in the fuel delivery things.. caz i think the 13's arent carbs. but i could be wrong..

ps: its early and im trying to just figure out because we might put it all back together today and get it trailered up, so sorry if i ramble. lol..

I think you will be quite unhappy with the results of taking it to the dealer to have the work done. I would sugest taking it to a mechanice from the board. Hit your local section and find someone they recommend.

I doubt the dealer would put a 13B in it for you.I say that because they would have to custom make too many things, and they would have to figure out how to run it,because your 12A carb and intake would not work on the 13B,but the carb alone would with the right manifold, but again they don't want to mess around with that.

Are there any forum members even close by to you to help you out some.I still think you are better doing it yourself. It will be a learning experience for both you and your father.

I didn't even change my own oil before I bought my 1st RX-7,and months after I bought it I was swapping an engine, and rebuilding the carb by myself, and then a year later I did a whole restoration with littls to no help.

Maybe you guys could remove everything, and start from scratch.Maybe just buy a rebuilt engine if you think that is one of the troubles. There are plenty of places to get the engines,or get yours rebuilt, and shipped back to you.You can work on these cars with a small amout of tools as well.A collection of 10,12,14,and 17mm wrench/sockets will get you a long way with these cars.

You seriously DO NOT want to take it to a dealer, Mazda or not. They do not have enough knowledge about the rotarys to be able to properly diagnos, troubleshoot or fix a problem or swap an engine. I made that mistake several years back and they had a certified rotary tech. They had the 7 for 8 months and when I finally drove her home I had to stop 3 times within 5 miles due to overheating issues. They had the timing set improperly. After another 5 weeks I got her back only to overheat yet again. When I returned they tried to tell me I voided the warranty cuz I drove it too fast during the break-in period. I never went over 50 or reved over 3k,cuz the overheating problem and I always shut it down before it got too hot. I eventually did the work on it myself and have never looked back. If you were on the west coast it would be different, it seems there is a great selection of competent rebuilders due to the larger number of 7's on the road. The gas you will pay to get to TN is much less than the money and time you will save in the long run by having it built right.

lol, honestly when we take it up there and if they say its going to take that long its not going to happen any way, because i need the car to be fixed in about a month which is why we were taking it to a dealer, most mechanics around the area, i wouldnt trust working on my lawnmower... so thats out of the question, as for people close to me, i remember searching last time, and the closest accually to me was aussiesmg and hes still basically on the other side of the state... and were not sure its even a need of a swap, basically we dont know whats wrong with it, everything we have tried just has failed to fix any thing.

you can check out the post's about the original problem here https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...8&page=1&pp=15

Oh.. let me clarify. They did not tell me it was going to take that long, I believe they told me a couple weeks originally. Otherwise it would not have been there. It's a tough call as far as time or money. When I had mine done several years ago it cost about 5k for the dealer to do a swap. Good luck with it, I wish you the best and hopefully you do not end up with a nightmare story such as mine.
