Is the engine worth it?
I'm purchasing a parts car and it still has all the engine except a few misc parts like carb, dizzy, rats nest and ?? (about all I saw missing). Since the hood has been off for an unspecified amount of time and I saw water in the carb and dizzy openings, I am wondering if the engine would be rebuildable or might the internals have rusted too badly? If I could even just salvage the housings for a porting project I'd be happy since I already have a working engine in my current '82.

water in the intake would have oxidized several of the metal components and I shudder to think of the seals.
You could disassemble the engine and clean or machine it, replace the seals, etc. (in other words a rebuild) and have a runner but don't expect to jut slap on a carb and be off to the races.

I read your email
I have a couple of rex's in a bone yard not far from me. Both with 12a's. I was thinking of making the yard a real cheap offer for one of the engines. My plan is to street port and build-up a 12a as my funds free up. Question is.... what 12a should I pick? From an external cosmetic stand-point they both look okay. I suppose I should put a wrench to the main pully of each to see if I can turn it by hand? I could also look into the spark plug holes and look for anything "outa place". A blown apex seal can cause damage... yes? Hmmm, other than that, what else should I base my decision on? TIA
