Engine vibration?

I don't know totally how to explain it. But When in park(automatic, Just bought a full parts car to convert it!) The engine vibrates. As shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M84qNUZoIzY It also vibrates when in drive and you can feel it in the rear end. Any suggestions. I'm new to rotary's so I don't know much. Thanks in advance.

I cant tell from the video but the vibration is prob the transmission mount has collapsed and is sending the vibrations directly to the body.

if the trans mount were shot, the trans would shift when drive or reverse were engaged and you would feel a clunk. same with the engine mounts. sounds like an interior plastic is vibrating. perhaps your stereo wiring harness is sitting on some metal behimd the dash. its hard to tell from the video. is your split air tube touching the underbody or chassis at all? that'll cause a vibration like that.

The interior vibrates because of the vibration the "engine" creates. You can feel it in the whole car when driving down the road starting at about 50. The tranny does clunk but i believed it to be the u-joints. Well i got a complete parts car yesterday so i could swap in a manual guess I might be doing it sooner than I expected.

On a side note less than a month from buying my first Rx7 I bought another one for parts. $850 for a GSL with 83000 miles and I'm in the process of painting it. And yesterday I bought a 83 GS with 193000 and a blown motor. Clean car otherwise for $250 for parts for manual tranny swap. Hell the "cubby" hole lids are still attached.

Thank you so much. I might have to. This is totally new territory for me. I saw your thread about the wrecked front end. The parts car I have has a good front end you could swap into yours.

i appreciate the offer but i recently cut the front end off of a pars car that i had laying around. plus the shipping would be super expensive. i always seem to find myself doing more restoration work than actual driving, lol.

I can second this as I was getting really violent vibrations and shaking when engaging the transmission to first (mines a manual).

Once my transmission mount got replaced I still had pretty noticeable vibrations which turned out to be an incorrect bolt used on my flywheel which also ruined my flywheel because the bolts have such a fine pitch not found anywhere else in the drivetrain.

The flywheel took care of 95% of my vibrations I was experiencing and now I still have slight vibrations most likely because one of the faces on my rear rotor is a lot lower than the other two faces (side seal seating issue most likely) as described in my thread. Plus, the low side was measured at a 6.4 with the Mazda Compression Tester and on the chart provided on the back of the tester said 6.4 is the minimum number Mazda would consider that the 12A will be operational at. Another one of my issues to look into.

Good luck with your first gens! Welcome to the darkside

I'm hoping its not the motor. It only as 83000 miles on it. Although throughout it life it was driven by Grandmas so it was never run hard. Could this be a contributing factor? Also is it possible for the engine to be out of balance?

Yes, BEAT IT!!! You gotta blow the carbon out. Even if this isn't the current problem, it will become a problem later. Carbon will build up.

I know that. I was thinking about putting some seafoam down the carb. Idk about the vacuum line way. Its hard to get her to redline with an automatic. I gotta put it in first and about the time I hit 7000rpm I'm doing 50. But that's what the parts car is for. Any suggestions on the seafoam i poured a bottle in with 1/4 of a tank but haven't noticed a difference.

it takes a little time to notice a difference. pouring it down the carb will help a little and sucking it in through a vacuum line yeilds very fast results. running seafoam through the tank a few times a year is always a great preventative. after running though a tank with the seafoam its best to change the fuel filter. the crud the seafoam loosens can clog up a fuel filter pretty quick.
