engine uneven?

im installing my 85 SE engine into my S and it doesnt seem to look right it looks like its cocked to the driver side of the engine bay. can some one confirm this? i have a pic of how it sits and one also of the passenger side of the bay with the front mount the attachs to the oil cover. i notched that mount and you ll notice that its not even filling the notched part of the braket. someone please help. oh and on the driver side where i notched it its fully in the notched portion.

The stock engine mount puts the centerline of the front pulley offset about 2" to the driver's side.

Unless something is messed up in the back, at the tranny mount, you should not need to notch the front mounts. Try rotating the front mounts; some of them have off-centric studs and rotating will make them move around.

lol, alex 7 was worried over this same problem when we installed his engine.
as long as the engine and tranny are bolted down and splined together you have nothing to worry about.

Im no engine swap guru but it seems like that if the engine and tranny are at the wrong angle, you could start either going through U-joints or tear up your rear transmission seal, or both.....

the u joints allow flex up and down and side to side.
like on off road rigs when you lift it you can change the angle quite a bit before you run into problems.
plus im sure his isnt off by very much if any, the engine does sit in there a tiny bit sideways.

you should just be able to notch the engine mount bar as you did.
heres the difference in the crossmember for anyone else interested in a 13b swap.

All my engines have sat this way too.Ive never lost a Ujoint or had any undue failures because of it.
This was discussed a while back, but Im not sure if a conclusion was reached as to why they sit crooked......

No engine should be crooked...........

I would think you need to weld some to get it straight. Not because of fear of breaking parts but just because you dont want it to look like its half done when you show it to people.

I've never seen a motor mount with off-centric studs.

I have seen a difference of about 10mm between an '83 and '84 front cover mount. Both from 12As. The '84 unit did not fit in an '83 chassis correctly. You can ask PercentSevenC about this as it was his car in which I first noticed this peculiarity.
