I just rebuilt the stock 12a engine in my 83. Everything went fine and I have everything in the car and back together. I just can't get it to crank. I think it just out of time. The car is turning over, I'm getting fire, and can see gas in the carb. When I bought my car, one of the previous owners had done several modifications. One thing he did was do the direct fire injection mod described here here. Where the two leading spark plugs are hooked up to a separate coil bypassing the distributor. I'm not sure how to time this setup. Thanks in advance.

Did you set the motor at TDC when dizzy was installed? Thats a common problem followed by carb.

I completely forgot to set the engine tdc. I just tried it and still won't start. anymore tips. Thanks for the help

Probably flooded by now so you need to deflood it

Thanks for the help. I finally figured it out. Part of the choke linkage was broken so when I manually choked it, it started right up.

and the older engines had a symmetrical bolt pattern for the front hub to timing pulley, your timing marks could be anywhere from 90* to 180* off if there was no care to mark it before taking it off or reinstalling it.
