The mount setup is different on them. But I dont see why you could not put the 13B from the SE into a second, you would have to change the front cover and oil pan over to the ones from the 2nd gen. I dont think there would be an easy way to put a 12a in though.

I doubt the intermediate plate of a GSL-SE has the correct motor mount holes for a 2nd gen installation.

There would certainly be some custom fabrication involved if you're talking about the 1st gen (carburated) 12A engine. And the only stupid questions are the ones that don't get asked, so ask away--- that's what we're here for. (Exceptions to this rule are the questions "should I put a V8 into my 7?", "Should I rice out my 7?", and "Should I buy a Honda Civic in a feeble attempt to get laid?")

So you get to live in Oshkosh, Wisconsin? Home of the biggest annual experimental aircraft gathering on the planet. Some people have all the luck...

The first gen had the 12a and the 13b engines. You could put either engine in there but you would probably have to fab some stuff up. You wouldn't really want to put a 12a in there though (less power, plus the 2nd gen weighs more).

Uhh....why would you want to? It's weaker...they made 13b's for the 2nd gens for a reason....

im guessing that you probobly found a cheap 12a engine at a junk yard and the guy told you that it would fit in your rx7. well they try to do that alot. Its going to be alot cheaper and easier to just find the engine that belongs in the car and do a straight swap rather that having to custom make alot stuff

As the rest of the guys are saying, you are better of with a 13B in a 2.gen. Shouldent be that hard to find!
