Engine Paint And Cleaner ?
In a few weeks i will be getting the engine that lovintha7 is selling on e-bay...it looks like it needs a bit of cleaning up, and a new paint job, and i was wondering which paint would be the best to use on this engine ? and what would be the best to clean it with ? just de-greaser ?

EDIT: This is the engine http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33615

well i noticed your not in canada, so i suggest a foaming degreaser in a spray can, sprays on hard, and then rinses away... another thing i used was break cleaner... that stuff comes outa the can fast and eats away as you spray it... as for paint VHT hi heat, and dubli color engine enamel are what im using to paint.

I use Gunk engine degreaser, brass, stainless and plastic brushes, works well
For paint, I use a 500degree enamel from Autozone or Advanced. Holds up for years for me.
Been doing that to my engine bay that last 2 weeks, purty!

Whats the best way to clean up my engine compartment without pulling the engine...I'm not looking for a show car, or something I can eat off of, just to get some grime off of it.

Motor installed- wait for a nice, sunny day. Pop the hood and make sure to cover everything that you don't want to get wet with baggies and zip ties (carb, wires, etc). Wait until engine warms in direct sun, spray on purple power directly onto engine and parts. Let sit for whatever the recommended time is (10-15 minutes). Use a garden hose with a light spray to rinse any purple power to the ground through the engine bay. Then- use a stream nozzle or a pressure washer to blast loose grease and crud off.
**DO NOT LET PURPLE POWER SIT ON PAINTED SURFACES VERY LONG- IT WILL DISCOLOR THEM- EVEN ENGINE BAY PAINT!!!**
You can also use Easy-Off oven cleaner, etc..

WD-40 works pretty well for strut towers and other areas you can reach by hand. I even used it to clean off the underside of my hood...just spray on, let soak and scrub off.

WD-40 is a lube. If you don't get it all off, dirt and debris will adhere to it. Also- lubes do not spray off well with water (oil and water ... etc)
Degreasers generally do not leave much in the way of a residue and can be hosed off.

I just used regular engine degreaser, an assortment of brushes, a sweeper nozzle on the hose, and some carb cleaner. took about an hour to do. It was extremely dirty under where the rats nest was.
