Engine OUT! is my clutch ok?

GOT MY ENGINE OUT FINALLY!!!

thanks to forum member "dufourmike" who most the work. lol

we pulled the motor out of the car with some nylon straps and
a big long 2x4....one of us on each side.. but i was so weak since im
such a out of shape bum, i pretty much watch mike single handedly
pull the engine up and over the front of the car...by himself!. i only was
there to guide him during the proces.. hahah lol

anyways, does anyone know what is the acceptable amount of
material to be left on a clutch plate? im thinking the clutch is looking
pretty new, but can't be too sure. is there any formal way of checking this? maybe with a tread depth guage or something?

nick

Check the rivits of the clutch to how much matrial is above them. I think hayne's will tell you what is good.

To the person that pulled your engine out single handedly, man you need to do something special for him. I just gave another forum member a 12a that was laying around and I wouldn't dare try to lift that by myself.

In my younger days I lifted the 12A out of an RX3. Took a little lumber, and wasn't too kind to the bodywork. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, I thought about it -laughed about it- and went and dropped 150 on a really nice hoist. I'm sure I didn't sweat as much as you guys did, even with the wife browbeating me over the expenditure....

hahaha yes...that's how we did it!!!

but you see, i was too weak to hold up my end, so what he did was....

he found a dolley, the type to move heavy fridges...now he replaced me with the dolly....lifted up my sideof the engine, set the board on the dolly, and ijust stood there, and made sure the dolley didn't tip over when he single handedly lifted the other side, and pivoted all the way to the front left side of the car (where i was) and let it down. man i feel like such a ********. but hey...im not a kid anymore. 31 yrs old with a beer belly doesn't help. haha

yeah hopefully he'll be helping me install the new motor...this time im renting an engine hoist. but yes...all hail..."DUFOURMIKE"...Strong man Drywaller...here to serve you lesser abled rotary bums.

i dont reall yknow what to say, but if other rx7 owners want, ill gladly pull any non-20b engine out of a car with no more than the lumber and dolly.actually i picked my old 13b out of my 1st 2nd gen (whew) with my bare hands, rested it on my rad support, then got out and put i t on the ground. really, this was much easier, i cold have done 2 or 3 in a row with not much fuss.

that there looks like a canadian tire cable winch! I have one too.. best $14.99 I ever spent!

I''ve pulled engines before without a hoist... once with a 2x4 and a strap, with 2 people...

once by hand out of the trunk of a tempo, with 3 or 4 people!

once by hand into and out of a vw
and uhh, that's it

oh, once by hand, by MYSELF, into the trunk of a cavalier, when Iw as like 17 and scrawny! that was an adventure! I still dont' know how I did that.

and all of these were 13b-t's, no light 12a stuff!

the 12a had the clutch attached, my 13b was auto so it had the flexplate, but the 13b still felt heavier. also, i was a lot stronger back then.

Cripes! I just tow a cherry-picker home from the rental place. That way I can single-hand it without worry. Pay a half day rent, too.
