Engine noises, need help (Video)

Ive had a few people make guessing trying to help me figure out what the sound was. Here is some video of it. Please only people with some experiance and who can actually make a good guess or deffinate answer as to what it is. I tried new plug wires and plugs but no success. The timing is correct also. First video its clear to hear. Second one you have to wait till I shift then afterwards youll hear it when I get back on the throttle

Will it only make the noise it under load?
Is there a loss of power?
Is the sound coming from the engine?
Does the shifter **** rattle or can you feel it in the shifter?

^^^ ANSWERS ABOVE^^^ It does it only under 50%+ load, mainly in 3rd 4th and 5th gears, I guess because of the fact there isnt much load in 1st and 2nd gears...

Just an offhand guess here, check the motor mounts and the see if the fan is hitting the fan shroud.

Almost sounds like your cooling fan hitting the shroud..although the sound was sorta hard to hear... Seems to kick in right about when your engine is in the powerband, and just maybe the engine is torquing the fan over into the shroud?

Well I checked that theo ther day thinking I had a bright idea. From what I can tell they are ok becuase I had the car in gear, foot on brake and gas at the same time as I let off the clutch and didnt see it kick up too much. maybe a bit... but since Im not the only one that thinks that, maybe ill take off the fan shroud and try it out, see if the noise leaves. Thanks for the fast replies

That happen to me, and it wore a hole right through the top of my shroud. Then I was like oh so thats what the sound was! lol

Check the underside of your shroud, and the Fins for black spots from rubbing.

Well ****... now Im down a fan shroud and still have the noise. It was a bit dry and brittle and it cracked when I was taking it off... wasnt the problem. Back to the drawing board

P.S. Think expensive, because with my luck itll be the most time consuming and hardest hitting on my wallet

Does it sound maybe like a bent/worn/ warped stationary gear? if anyone has ever heard one of those? ive never heard one myself but going through the engine in my head, itso ne of the only things i can come up with that might sound like that

AHHHH! Damnit. A freind of mine from another forum told me hese almost 100% sure its detonation. He said he would hear the same things from when he ran his with 200 shot. So I guess Im gonna replace that horrible Facet pump with something a little better and then replace all the soft fuel lines and filter. then when I get my wideband Ill try again. Detonation was what I originaly said it was a good 2 or 3 months ago but dismissed that idea since It was running horribly rich at idle. Maybe I need a larger main jet and smaller air jet... Ill find out when i get a good base fuel system going, tune it later. thanks for all the helpful comments

Detonation will sound like a bunch of marbles rattling around in a coffe can. If that is the case, start with your ignition system. I chased an issue like this for a few weeks before I found that the ignitors were reversed (don't ask how that happened, I have no idea). If you have stock ignition, you might want to consider installing a 2nd gen leading coil pack which produces a hotter spark and some improvement in hp. For a simple check to verify that this is a timing issue, just rotate the dizzy a tiny bit counterclockwise. Picture the face of a clock, you want to move it about five minutes worth max. Then try it out and see how she sounds. Good luck man.

well, my timing has been set with a timing light. So if anything it might be something bad, or something else set wrong in the ignition system (for example your ignitors) When I rebuild the engine Im going with a new ignition system. MSD Box, new MSD coils, already have the good new plugs ans wires. So if its all set itll deffinately be fuel dilivery, which I will also be fixing. thanks for the tips though

The noise definately coming from the engine bay? i don't think its coming from the engine, you can hear the revs are smooth and no misfireing.

how virgin is your engine bay, current mods?

something sounds loose
loose exhaust pipe or metal heat deflector? baffle?

well when it makes the noise power takes a dump on me and the revs slow to almost no gain... engine bay is clean, nothing loose to rattle as far as i know. but as i said, a few people have assured me its detonation and that was my first guess when i heard it as well.
